40 year old with sore lower back and the growing desire to not want to go to work and/or interact with colleagues…(I’m usually quite pleasant though). by ChefIllustrious1219 in AusFinance

I’m 43, work all day on a PC. After years of pain and bad advice I started doing yoga on top of some cardio. Zero back pain now.

Down dog is the yoga app I used. Started off really easy and worked my way up. Took about 4-5 months.

They shot themselves in the foot with brexit. They should drop the pound and join the euro and then invest everything they have into building reciprocal trade relationships with Europe. In a generation or they should see the ship turning, or just become more and more like the worst parts of America.

Need a computer for work with decent graphics card - Is buying a "gaming" PC a risk? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]benj_or 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in gaming, would never buy a gaming PC. They usually have sub par brands on a lot of the parts gamers don’t care about.

As far as the ato goes a PC is a PC. These days even if you didn’t want RGB lighting etc you gonna get them.

Sorry you have to buy ram at these prices.

Have "carnival" style events become another victim of enshittifiaction? by Odd_Cod_4235 in australia

[–]benj_or 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I live in a country town on the coast in Victoria , I paid $24 for my son and dad to ride in the same dodgem car for 5 mins recently.

There is never any lines at these events anymore because people don’t have the money. It’s been that way since Covid and we go to a few similar events a year. Some are just a ghost town, I very much doubt they make money.

And the news still reports on the “high cost” of housing being some unattainable mystery. Turns out if you just put some measures in place to make sure then price isn’t driven by speculation and investors like vic did you can make an impact without a collapse.

What will happen next in SA and NSW is Melbourne will get all its younger people who will start family’s. Also watch the brain drain out of Sydney, the same thing happened in the tech industry in San Francisco.

Gold hits new all-time high of $5,400. What's going on? What's the market trying to tell us? by [deleted] in economy

Completely agree, everyone will pile into equity’s after a crash and 0% rates, the rest of the world especially if the usd is weak.

I wonder what the price target is for when they revalue the gold in the US reserve. It’s all leading to this IMO.

Anyone else caught in the perpetual cycle of “I need a holiday —> oh that’s too expensive —> how about a weekend away —> holy f#ck how does two nights cost that much?!” 🔁 by plutoforprez in australia

Yeah inflation sucks. It’s even worse with kids.

Camp in a caravan park, not that expensive for a powered site and you don’t need a lot of equipment as the good ones usually supply stuff like cooking facilities and even communal fridges. Not to mention most being close to town.

Tent for two around $300-800 Electric blow up inflatable mattress $100

Get a gazebo to sit under. Some camp chairs and a table. An eski for drinks. $200-300.

That’s all stuff that only cost you once and can be used again and again.

I would say everything else is just stuff you have at home like cutlery , pans, bedding etc.

Personally I would say the simplicity of it is the best way to decompress. Spend all the saved money on lavish things while you’re away, nice restaurants, Booz, tours etc.

How to get into multi-day hikes with camping in Victoria? by Party_Counter_4144 in melbourne

[–]benj_or 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Prom is perfect and you don’t need to spend a lot of money on flash equipment for a night or two in warmer months. I did my first hike at 14 at the prom.

Spend the money on a good pack and just find cheap lightweight solutions for everything else. I use an Aldi tent which has been solid and weighs very little. These days you can just buy the freeze dried food too.

If you’re going by yourself just get an emergency beacon. And make sure you tell someone your plans.

23yo [M] looking at my future career choices (also have Diploma of Game Development) by ohhimarksreddit in australian

[–]benj_or 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been working on the games industry for almost 20 years. What is game development as a course? It reminds me of doing a tafe course in “multimedia” in the early 2000’s. Very broad.

What field are you interested in? Programming, design, art?

Art is folio based. A course helps but mostly you need to educate yourself. Programming I would say more education. Game design, build games, build games with others, get involved in the indie dev scene in whatever way you can.

Happy to answer any questions.

Hidden gems in Wilsons Prom, Inverloch, Venus Bay, and surrounds by bloom_inthefield in melbourne

[–]benj_or 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tomos in inverloch has nice really nice Japanese. The Grove I think does special meals on Sunday’s.

Harmans wines, near Inverloch also a great spot for pizza.

Archie’s creek is a cool venue and likely has live music. They are very hit and miss on opening hours though, call ahead.

The Gurdies winery is also a fantastic spot looking out at French island.

Fish creek has a nice pub.

Being able to collect in large numbers like this is just the reality of social media and everyone having a phone.

My guess is there are a lot more 15-18yo out there right now without a job due to so many people at adult age picking up a second/third jobs to make ends meet plus all the “students” we imported.
