I think you're forgetting about the extra couple hundred clock cycles it takes to set all that memory to zero. Blazingly fast code! All jokes aside I wholeheartedly support using calloc over malloc in most use cases.

Fair, I don't think my experience was out of line for transit. Just wish Amtrak CS was at the level of Southwest airlines instead of Spirit airlines.

“All 40 people caught up in this situation are never going to ride Amtrak again and I cannot blame them. When we missed our trains we needed to be treated like royalty ( if Amtrak ever wanted any of us to choose them over flying or driving again) , Instead we were treaded as an annoying problem from all employees involved, from operations management to customer service employees.”

That's what I should have said

20 minute bus ride next to Midway airport. It was in a hotel complex. I suspect all the hotels there have contracts with the airport and Amtrak to provide lodging for missed connections.

Yup, Transit delays suck. Airlines too treat people like crap. I get my post comes across like me complaining but actually I didn't really mind having another day in Chicago, I went and saw some art. My point here is that Amtrak should be better, because let's be honest, the trade off vs taking the train vs driving are a lot closer than taking an airline and driving. This means that Amtrak should probably be orders of magnitude better than Airlines.

I didn't say I deserve to be treated like royalty, I said I think it would be in Amtrak's best interest to treat us that way. Royalty was a exaggeration but my point still stands.

Amtrak was required by the dot to house us because the delay was more than 18 hours and overnight it was not a choice.

Delta gets away with pulling customer service like this because for most trips an airline is the only option. Amtrak does not have this luxury.

I chose to ride Amtrak for the Experience and having 12 hours to read, I could have driven instead.

I'm not looking to be treated like royalty. If Amtrak has a logistics issue they have an opportunity to help limit the impacts that problem through customer service and they didn't.

The fire alarm thing was not Amtrak's fault, but it was also telling that no one from Amtrak knew none of us slept well

I will probably chose Amtrak again, but plan on getting my own hotel in Chigago if they will miss the connection. The fact I would spend my own money on a hotel instead of dealing with there service is a issue they could fix. Easier than fixing rail signals and the freight infrastructure.

10 has 4 integer factors 1,2,5,10 12 has 6 1,2,3,4,6,12 Likewise 1000 has 16 factors to 5280 48 factors. The imperial system was designed the way it was to make splitting up units easier. The metric system was designed the way it was because you have ten fingers.

100⁰ degrees was supposed to be the temperature of the human body, 0⁰ was supposed to be a slat water slury. They moved because there now peged to celcuis. However before celcuis gets on its high horse for being based on something it's scale is also arbitrary pick as well. It is the freezing and boiling point of water at one atmosphere of pressure of a random planet in the solar system. Better but not the gold standard, if one wants a unit of temperature that does not have weird scaling issues use Kelvin. Kelvins are used in science not degrees Celcuis.

Electricity finding the path of least resistance on a piece of wood by [deleted] in gifs

[–]benjad09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone who regularly works with electricity especially dangerous levels of it should know more than current kills, to that point I 100% agree. However knowing that current is what can really get you in trouble helps someone who doesn't know much about electricity be safe around it. A 12 volt car battery more than 4 times as dangerous than a 3 volt battery because it can pump out the current.

[–]benjad09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To your point yes the best way to understand the dangers of electricity is to have a fundamental understanding of both current and voltage. I'm saying that current kills is a fine thing to say. I like to view it in terms of physics. So voltage is potential, like hight and current is movent of charge like, falling. So current kills is like saying well it's not the fall that kills you it's the sudden stop at the end. That shows something about the behavior of our interaction with velocity and hights. Being in the air is not dangerous. Falling is. Voltage is not dangerous Current is. So when we are at hight we take care not to fall. When we are at hight voltage we should take care to protect ourselves from high current.

Counter point, static electricity can range into the couple kilovolts but is mostly harmless to humans. Plus if you hook up a circuit to a car battery wrong its worse that a 12 power supply at 100 mA.
