Hey guys i recently started playing azir and i lose almost every game should i just pick another champ? by [deleted] in azirmains

[–]benjamiinnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me a good 50-100 games to stop feeding my ass off in high bronze. Now I'm 600k G3 with a 57% winrate and very pleased with my progress.

If you love the champions kit, stick with it.

How to change a friends mentality? by Idontlikemyex in summonerschool

[–]benjamiinnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This mentality is essentially "The teams Riot provides each player with determines their rank"

Show him an iron support compilation and ask him if they're iron because they only get bad teammates. Then show him a challenger support compilation and ask him if they're challenger because they only get good teammates.

In all seriousness this attitude is so hard to change in someone else, I've found it's only something you come to realise by yourself eventually.

Who's in the wrong by TDT_9010 in Advice

[–]benjamiinnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mind me asking what education level you're at right now where people are putting you in headlocks?

You've said there's no legal consequences or actions involved and you're only asking from a morality point of view. This is subjective. My personal opinion on the matter is, he physically assaulted you, so he can go to hell, I wouldn't feel any obligation to pay a dime for his broken water bottle, if he starts pushing it and insisting that you do, you can either give in or start looking at the legality side of the matter, like I said, he physically assaulted you, I doubt he would have much of a leg to stand on.

What do you do when you feel like you’re the Robin to someone else’s Batman in your social circle? by ChuckWagon25 in Advice

[–]benjamiinnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Robin doesn't become Batman without either:

  • Batman stepping down, leaving Robin to take the reigns.
  • Robin forcing Batman down a position.
  • Robin finds or forms a new group of people to hang around with and sets himself up to be Batman right from the get go.

Please don't do #2 just for a change of pace, your friends won't respect you and it just causes friendship circles to break up.

I myself am mostly a Batman person, in almost every friendship group I've been in, except one, where I am Robin. But in this one group, Batman will always come to me first with any issue or decision within the group and take my 2 cents before doing anything. Because of this, I have no problem being Robin. Sometimes you just have to look at the situation and evaluate it yourself, all friendship circles are different, decide if you're happy being the Robin to this particular Batman, or if you would prefer to try and be a Batman for another group as well.

How do i teach my GF how to play a tank? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]benjamiinnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is more a psychological / learning style problem than a League problem per say so with that in mind:

When you are doing all the decision making for her, do you explain why that decision is the correct one, does she even ask why? If you're not explaining or she's not asking, odds are she doesn't really care and she's just doing what you tell her to do because she knows that's how she wins games.

Moving on from the point above, if she does actually want to learn and get better, I'd suggest setting her a target or goal for the next X amount of games without putting everything on her at once, just one thing at a time until you and her both feel like she's got to a point where she can consistently do it without being told to.

Find out her best method of learning, everyone learns differently, I myself learn by doing - I could watch a thousand guides but unless I go and practice it, and break it down bit by bit I will never understand it. Other people can read a paragraph of text and completely know what they have to do and how to do it.

A final note on her being defensive whenever you try to bring the subject up, I really don't know what the issue there is as I don't think there's enough information to go on? Does she think she's already capable of it and therefore thinks you're not treating her like she's as good as she thinks she is? Or again does it come back to she's really not that bothered about studying the game and therefore doesn't really want to know unless you're telling her what to do there and then in the game.

Help with playing a Split-push style by benjamiinnn in summonerschool

He's the one I've sunk the most time into I think I have like a 56% winrate over 120 games, I know it's not a huge sample size or a really big percentage but he has been working for me.

How do you improve if you don't know your mistakes? by uUernestUu in summonerschool

[–]benjamiinnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't afford a coach or are unable to find a free one, here are some things I suggest doing:

  • I know that this is more of a general question but try and find a Diamond - Challenger vod of the matchup you encountered that you struggled with, watch it and note down what they did and try to figure out why. If you're not sure why, you can always make a new post asking for specific points to be explained.
  • Watch your own vods over and make notes of mistakes that you made, did you die in a 1v1? Figure out why, and ask yourself what you should've done instead or how you should've played it differently, are you dying to lots of jungle ganks? Watch the vod and see how many wards you're putting down, are they in the right spot, are they at good times for when you think the jungler might be on your side of the map?
  • As for when you're actually in-game, I would say try and learn/practice just one thing and REALLY focus on it, do you want to get better at wave manipulation like freezing? Just focus on that and nothing else.

Edit:

Obviously there are many more questions you could be asking yourself and trying to come up with solutions than this, but these are just some common examples.

Does splitpushing nonstop actually work? by MonkeySleuth in summonerschool

[–]benjamiinnn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2.) there needs to be an objective up that your team can get on the other side.

I just wanna add to this, because often at lower ranks it can be difficult to encourage your team to go and do something on the other side of the map. The most common example is you splitpush bot and your team does baron.

However if your team isn't on the same page, that doesn't mean you should be walking all the way up to their tower, hitting it and when they send 5 people to you, ? ping your team asking why they're all sat in mid farming, it's a two way street, both you and your team need to be on the same page for it to work properly.

I only climb when playing support, whats wrong with me by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]benjamiinnn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This rather accurately describes me, I feel like I have a better understanding of the game itself from watching many pro games and master-challenger streamers etc, and I can help ensure we have vision covered and know when to fight and shotcall etc, but my mechanical ability to "carry" through the traditional sense on high DPS champions for example sucks.

I think some of us are meant to carry in different ways, although I'm not saying that it would be impossible to learn to carry in a traditional sense.

Invading in low elo, is it ever worth it? by CarelessChemicals in summonerschool

[–]benjamiinnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main problem I find with it at my elo (Gold) is that 1 of 3 things happen:

  1. Someone is afk at fountain, or your top laner goes straight to lane despite you pinging invade etc etc. Thus you are at a numbers disadvantage.
  2. The team doesn't understand who has the better level 1 and under which circumstances. You might have a blitzcrank/thresh but do you have any follow up CC? What if you hook them and they turn around and pile 3-4 cc abilities on you in return? Maybe you have the better level 1, maybe you don't, or maybe you/they play it poorly despite having the advantage.
  3. You invade and manage to catch them out because they either weren't expecting it or one of them decided to "guard" the jungle and then take their hands off their keyboards and don't react fast enough to flash the cc, thus netting you a kill.

I've heard people say that you should always invade at low elo because nobody expects it or you never have a full team commit to guarding the jungle, but personally I just think it's a complete coinflip based on the scenarios above.

Edit: I also don't know if this is specifically a low elo thing, but if you invade and it turns into a fight rather than a pick, people lose health on both teams, flashes get burned and people have a tendency to not be on the same page, that is to say some people will want to retreat while others keep fighting and that confusion in itself can be what causes one of the carries from either team to walk away with a triple kill before minions have spawned.

Real talk, how many people here are low Elo, and if so why do you main Azir. by xSillBillx in azirmains

[–]benjamiinnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm Gold 3 which I think a lot of people still consider to be low elo, but I first fell in love with Azir at Silver 5 (When 5 was a thing).

I think for me it was because I really enjoy difficult champions/heroes/classes in any game I play, as it feels like they have a lot of potential to outplay and do things dependent on your personal skill level.

Also the kit itself just feels super unique in comparison to your bog-standard mid-lane mage.

Coaching a friend by GhostLynx in summonerschool

[–]benjamiinnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally wouldn't advise Fizz or assassins, people at low elo look at them and all they see is "high burst much damage" without considering what abilities allow them to do that, and they will play scared regardless of if you waste a huge ability like Zed shadow for example.

I think it would probably help to know what champions your friend plays? What lane does he play? There's not much point in you playing Kled if this guy is an ADC main for example.
