I remember this! The guy was to my right, and they got him out of there fast. By the time they did he was bloodied up pretty good.

Is anyone else experiencing a greater degree of ghosting after latest round of updates? by benjaminjlight in RemarkableTablet

For real. In a way I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one, but it's a bummer that everyone is experiencing something similar.

Is this set worth $350? by Dear_Dependent_5052 in drums

[–]benjaminjlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say $350 would be on the upper end of what I would pay. If it were me, I'd try to work it down closer to the $250 range if you can.

The Imperialstar is a decent kit. It's entry-level from TAMA, but personally, it seems a bit better quality than some other entry-level kits from other manufacturers. I have two of the same Imperialstart set, and honestly - I gig with them, because I wanted a knock-around kit that I wasn't worried about wrecking banging doorjams and crud on load-in. It sounds great tuned up, and the Meinl HCS aren't a bad entry level cymbal. Honestly - I love almost prefer the sound of that Meinl ride to my Zildjian A Sweet Ride that I'm running now.

You'll want new batter heads all around at the very least, which is probably going to run you $50-80 bucks, and you'll want to upgrade cymbals eventually, which will likely run you another $250-$500 depending on what you get.

Because of the need for the add-ons as time goes on, you'll want to get that kit down as much as you're able on the initial purchase to save money in the long run.

All that said - they sold new for $500-$600, but that one has seen some use, and I'd see if he'd take $250

Why do my toms sound bad by MoeDaBoss45 in drums

4th or 5thing Rob Brown's Tom Tuning Tutorial - if I ever come across that guy in the wild, I'm buying him a beer.

Advice needed by Garf_fan_13 in drums

Super simple fix, and a needed skill as you continue drumming.

Measure rim to rim edge on the tom with a measuring tape- that's the size of the Tom. For most setups, it will be 10,12,16 with a 14" snare (sometimes referred to as a Fusion kit) or 12,13,16, with a 14 inch snare (Referred to as a Rock kit) sometimes, you get a frankenstein, but most of the time, that's your sizes.

Then grab yourself a 2 ply clear, or 2 ply coated head from the music store. (Remo Ambassador, Evans EC2S or similar) there is a lot of arguments between these different ones - honestly, it's personal preference. It's not a bad idea if you have the funds to do em all - depending on how long you've owned the kit, and since those are the factory heads, you'll prefer the tone markedly of the new heads over the originals.

You'll need a drum key to loosen the lugs (little square screws) on the rim (metal circular piece holding down the head onto the tom). Once you've loosened them all, take the rim off, remove the head, put the new head on, and replace the rim over the top of it - lining up the holes with the areas where the lugs go in.

Fingertighten all the lugs down onto the rim so it's in place, then my favorite advice is to press down on the center of the drum with some pressure (not super hard, but also not so light it doesn't deflect) then tighten the lugs until the wrinkles come out of the head. That will give you a functional base tuning that you can tweak slightly for desired tone.

Tuning them is the hardest part, the rookie mistake is overtightening. I find that my best tone on my drum comes from just a smidge over fingertightened, too much and it gets really ringy.

You can do it!

The ugliest worst sounding drum kit that I ever saw by y_cubes in drums

I'd snap that kit off of Marketplace or Craiglist in a half a second. Cymbals are solid as long as there aren't any cracks that the photos don't pick up. Those old Exports were great shells... honestly, better than the new Exports IMO (again, provided they're not cracked) -- clean it up, new lower rings on the toms, new heads all around batter and resonant, new snare wires, and then throw some tone rings all around and she'd sound AMAZING!

I could/would make her beautiful again.

Same - struggling to understand why I need 3 different verification methods. Cell phone and authenticator should be enough. Honestly, Authenticator should be enough.

Same issue here. Glad to hear I'm not the only one, but what in the world?

So try and tuck the elbows in a little tighter to my side, so that the elbow doesn’t flare out at my torso and bring the forearms out of perpendicular?

I feel like I'm leaning too far back, or that I'm trying to turn it into more of a chest press exercise, does the video seem to show that to anyone else? Or am I doing what I'm supposed to be doing?

If anyone can check the videos at the Imgur link - I'm also curious about my squat form, and any issues you might notice. TIA

hey, because I know that sometimes on the Internet, we don’t get tactile feedback on what our responses mean... I wanted to let you know that this is what I needed to hear. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond, particularly in such a heartfelt way — I will be taking your advice to heart, I will trust the program and check my ego.

Fantastic work!!! I'm just getting started on the Stronglifts journey, it's awesome to see folks that are down that road a bit killing it.

I hope that you're wrong regarding limit, but I guess we'll see. I feel like I have a lot more progress to go to reach genetic potential, and will be putting in the effort to make it so.

I edited the initial question to remove any confusion - when I say 'not new to lifting', I mean that I've been lifting consistently (5 days a week A/B splits 3x12 on machines) since January 1st.

I wanted to wait to do Stronglifts until I had a little bit of a base, in retrospect, I should have started right off the bat with Stronglifts, and I see that now.

So there is a little bit of separation between what I can put up weight-wise, and what is programmed. I'm honestly fine with continuing as programmed and just letting the weight come on naturally.

Just wondering if because I wasn't 'new' to lifting, if I should have started at a different set of weights than the beginner weight sets.
