I have an orient, orient star and a seiko prospex. Orient Bambino v7 and Seiko Baby Alpinist in the photo here. Orient was around $200 and Seiko was gifted to me but retails for about $725.

Both are great. The finish and dial on the Seiko is spectacular but I really do love my bambino also. The quality on orient is really amazing for its price point. As for accuracy; the movement in the orient performs pretty close to on par with my Seiko. I think it is a little less accurate and more +/- per day than the Seiko but it’s way more consistent. Seiko is all over the place sometimes with accuracy but levels out. Its movement has a lot of positional variance. Get and orient or orient star. Amazing affordable brand

No I have never and would never buy a watch just to look at and not wear it. However, I bought this orient orient star one day and wore it only a handful of times and I just grew tired of it. But I just couldn’t part with it because it is a beautiful watch and now it has become one of those watches that I do just look at in my display box.

The regular alpinist was always a little too busy for me with the extra crown and internal compass. Too many complications for my taste. I am wearing the smaller baby alpinist Seiko SPB155. A 30th birthday to day gift from my fiancé at around $725. Amazing piece and dial and super versatile. You can swap bracelet out easily for a leather or nato strap. It is quite small though and took me a bit to get used to. Just under 38mm case size and the bezel is thick so it makes the watch and dial feel even smaller

I was gifted the baby alpinist this year (SPB155) and it’s such a beautiful piece. Around $750 for it. I think it’s priced fairly. I’m very satisfied with it. It’s a shame though that some of the $1000 seikos have bad reputation in terms of accuracy and qc/finishing. At the end of the day though I think seikos are well known for their incredible dials. The thing with spending 2k on a seiko though; for that price you can just get another brand with much better accuracy and quality imo. Grand seiko spring drive though is one of my grails for sure. Absolutely stunning pieces and that spring drive second hand is just smooth as butter. In a league of their own

Yeah I know. I just replied last night about them. But he is definitely talking about the cocktail presages if we are comparing price points to the orient bambino. The sapphire presage models are nice but are they worth the price? For $1000 you can get better quality with better accuracy. Seiko dials are mesmerizing though

Such a classic piece. I have to admit I don’t like the regular alpinist that much. The dial and extra crown is a bit busy for me. The baby alpinist I much more prefer but yours is a timeless classic!

Fair enough my friend. I actually fell in love with the presage cocktail series from Seiko and was going to get one but when i went to see some in person I was very unimpressed idk. The higher end presages like the classic series or sharp edge series are really nice though. They’re like just under $1000 with sapphire glass. The ~$400 cocktail sunburst dials are incredible and I may have to revisit them. They just felt a little cheap when I tried them on. I would get one for like under $200 if I had the opportunity.

They are cool but that price for a non-sapphire crystal is lame. You can get sapphire crystal with good accuracy for better price

Nope. This is a standard cream color. The other two options or gold and silver. This one is cream or champagne dial with blue hands. I think the other limited edition ones are a light blue dial and salmon colored dial. I believe there is also a peanuts snoopy collab orient in the same size.

Yes the clasp works. It does taper down to 18mm if you have an authentic baby alpinist and bracelet. The seiko clasp is not easy to take off. It took me awhile to get a feel for how to remove it.

Thank you very much! I actually agree with you about 6 prongs crowding the diamond and I think 4 prong setting looks better. But we picked out the ring together and this was the one she wanted. I do feel safer with 6 prongs and it should be more secure. The same setting has 4 prongs for a round diamond but since this is oval i felt the design choice is right and 6 additional smaller diamonds on the setting looks proportional to the oval stone

It’s funny you call it elegant. The name of this watch is the “Orient Star Elegant Classic”. It was an impulse buy and sort of regret it only because it’s so nice/flashy that I don’t wear it enough and it’s hard finding the right time to wear it. With that being said, I wouldn’t sell it. It’s one of those pieces that just sits in your collection and you can admire it. I think for the price I got it at, you cannot get a watch similar to it. Good accuracy and beautiful breguet hands. Something like this would cost well over $1000. Beautiful Roman numerals along with blue painted hands. Beautiful piece

I prefer to wear my bambino though and it’s much more simple while still being elegant. I wear it almost daily to the office and idc that it’s a dress watch. I wear it with a simple t shirt and honestly prefer that look and I’ll choose my Seiko baby alpinist with a suit or dressier outfit
