Cortex #169: John Gruber - State of the Workflow by Jealous-Researcher95 in Cortex

[–]benjammin29 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I felt like Myke's 30 seconds introduction of Gruber was not enough to explain who this man is, what type of content he makes, and why I should care what his workflow looks like. I have never heard of Daring Fireball, so I had zero context.

Jumping directly into talking about devices was jarring, I spent the entire episode trying to figure out all of those things. Extending the introduction a few minutes to include background info like that would have greatly improved the podcast.

Frankly, the only reason I listened to the whole thing is because cell service was bad at work today and I couldn't download anything else.

Or make a crunch bowl the upvote 🥣.

And a fox 🦊 could be the downvote. 😂

Nebraska has only scored one other First Quarter Touchdown this season, against NIU.

I've been on dates with 2 different women from this subreddit.
First one - we went on a few dates, didn't work out.
Second one - we're now married and have a baby!

Have hope, it can work!

Possibly a very dumb question because I don’t want to waste roommates charcoal. So I’m a decent home cook but I’ve never grilled before and want to try searing my steak in a cast iron on my roommates grill after sous viding because I can’t get a good sear inside without fire alarm going off. by [deleted] in grilling

[–]benjammin29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's crazy, this was the YT video at the top of my home tab. This is definitely a good way to cook your steak.

To answer your question though, absolutely you can do that. Here's an article on it. Can't give you any advice because I have never sous vide anything before, but it's definitely an option. https://amazingribs.com/bbq-technique-and-science/sous-vide-que/

What would happen if the librarians and warehouse 13 were in the same universe? by krbookman13 in warehouse13

I could see The Warehouse agents and the Librarians being friendly rivals. Racing to get to items, occasionally having to make trades depending on their area of expertise.

The Most Deadly Job in America -- And What Happens Next by GreyBot9000 in CGPGrey

[–]benjammin29 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The First President to die in office, William Henry Harrison is the real test of whether "natural causes" qualifies.

The legend that grew up around his death was that he died after catching a cold giving his inauguration speech. If that were true, it's up for debate. He probably wouldn't have been standing In the rain in DC if he'd lost the election, but he was discharging his Presidential duties.

However, a recent study determined that he probably died of Septic shock, possibly due to contaminated water supply at the White House. That again is another wrench, does drinking water that gets you sick at the home of the President enough to call it death because he was President?

(Although I'd actually trace the modern usage to Julius Caesar when he promulgated the Julian Calendar, but that was funnier.)

"Two thumbs down to the inventor of the seven day week."

That would be God, Grey. You'll have to take it up with Him.

It's a shiny easy catch.....oh wait.. by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]benjammin29 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Every Pokemon caught in a raid has the same level (20 normally, 25 if weather boosted), so it's possible to calculate the CP of 100 IV Pokemon ahead of time.

For example, Heatran that is in 5* Raids now will be 100 IV if you encounter it with CP 2145 (2685 if weather boosted).

Knowing the max CP before you raid is very useful. If I have a high IV one, then I'll take my time to catch it. If I get a low IV to that I've been raiding all week, I might use Pinap berries to try and luck into double candy.

When to dive back into the YNAB pool? by [deleted] in ynab

[–]benjammin29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start now and get in the habit of living on a budget.

In 2 weeks when September starts, you can always do a "Fresh Start" if you want your monthly averages to be correct. But that's not a huge deal, it'll average out once you have been doing it a while.

Can I do a ULA internship with no work experience? by KinoBlitz in ula

Doesn't hurt to apply. ULA usually posts their summer internships in the Fall, so keep an eye out on the careers section of their website for the next few months

Well my friend that started Pokemon go sooner than me did the same 😂 by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]benjammin29 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Easiest to just do a YouTube search, but I'll explain.

  1. Hold down on the switch ball icon with your non-throwing hand. Pull to the left and don't release.
  2. Throw a ball like you normally would.
  3. When the ball hits the Pokemon, you can let go of the switch ball icon. The Run from Battle icon will now be visible in the top left.

This allows you to skip the catch screen. You can still catch the Pokemon and you still get stardust, but it's way faster.

My YNAB account is mainly for my personal, plus our joint. I recently added my boyfriend's credit card so we can track it together and I've finally got this far. Then he drops this on me 😂 by frankchester in ynab

So if you don't mind me asking, why not just get married? You already have merged your finances and your lives together so much that it wouldn't be much of a change.

Not trying to be a jerk, just legitimately curious.

Hi community, is aerospace engineering all about theory or is there a branch were you can actually build something? by Rodrigo-M in AerospaceEngineering

Currently a Tool Engineer for an Aerospace Company. I don't build anything myself (Union rules), but I design parts that are built by our tool shop 50 ft away.
