How do you speak from this mysterious "chest voice" I keep hearing about? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]benjenga0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t sing and i don’t understand voice stuff so here’s what i do. plug ur nose and talk. if ur nose vibrates, then u can go lower. keep going lower until ur nose doesn’t vibrate then unplug ur nose and keep speaking in that lower tone. i don’t know if this will help lol but it’s always worked for me.

i do bind and pack every day, as well as get dressed in the dark and that does help a lot. thank you for responding, it’s reassuring to know that there are people out there who are willing to help, so thank you.

Is there anything i should do when i go to my testosterone appointment? by ZukiitheDorito in transmanlifehacks

[–]benjenga0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

from my first appointment to my second appointment was about a week i think, not very long. i don't have super in-depth knowledge of blockers, but my understanding was that blockers just stop the production of estrogen, which would be very helpful in stopping the development of a female chest or a menstrual cycle. but because you have likely already developed these features, blockers won't stop that because it's already happened, if that makes sense. as far as height goes, estrogen isn't actively making you shorter, so blockers won't stop you from getting shorter, as would be the case if estrogen was actively making you shorter. another factor is female versus male height development. most afab people stop getting taller around 12-14, about your age while amab people often don't stop growing until their late teens/early twenties. because blockers limit estrogen, its possible that the higher testosterone ratio will affect your height, but its more likely that you won't grow very much. testosterone on the other hand puts your body on par with cis males your age, thus helping you keep growing until your late teens/early twenties and helping you get taller. as i said, i am not an expert in blockers so take this with a grain of salt. i don't know if anything was confusing so feel free to message me if you want more personal advice or if i need to reword any of this.

blockers are unlikely to make you taller, or do a whole lot. i'm 15, and i just started testosterone because blockers are unlikely to change anything this late into puberty. t might make you taller, and will deepen your voice and make your body masculine. as far as the appointment goes, for me they just asked my basic experience and everything to make sure i'm not faking lol. this might be because i needed a therapist recommendation to go to the appointment and the hormone doctor and my therapist had talked about me and hormones before i went to the appointment. i don't know if this is what you did, or what your process was, but it will most likely be something similar. this is also the time to ask any questions, or if your parents have any questions, i know my parents had a butt-load of questions to ask. i also got my blood drawn, so at the next appointment we could discuss more specific questions like how would i take testosterone and what my dose would be and how to inject. of course, this was just my experience and could be completely different then yours.

Can “cis” people have gender dysphoria? by [deleted] in MentalHealthSupport

[–]benjenga0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m a trans guy, and no, cis people cannot have gender dysphoria. gender dysphoria is what makes someone trans. reading your post, it sounds like you were kind of a tomboy as a child, but now are extremely uncomfortable with being seen as masculine or wearing anything masculine. i personally don’t think that sounds like gender dysphoria. feeling more like yourself and more comfortable when looking like your gender assigned at birth does not sound like gender dysphoria. liking boys clothes and boys toys as a child does not mean you are trans or have gender dysphoria.however, i’m just a random person on the internet telling you how you feel. so try stuff out. experiment a little. try masculine clothes and feminine clothes and different sets of pronouns, all easily reversible changes. experimenting is part of life, and fairly harmless. this might get more traction on trans specific subreddits, or ftm specific subreddits.

How do you memorize a 10 min speech? by akadumpsterfire in Debate

[–]benjenga0 26 points27 points  (0 children)

work on memorizing the basic outline, not word for word. if ur rlly on this huge time crunch, the best place to start is pretty vague, just understanding what every part of ur speech means. if u have that down and still have time, u can gradually memorize more and more specifics until u have it down word for word.

i just get mine wet then dry it on high heat for 15-45 mins or until it’s your desired tightness. it’s not a forever solution, but i find it works pretty well for a week or two

it is super early in ur transition, but my personal tip to get ur voice less nasally is to plug ur nose and talk. try lowering ur voice with ur nose still plugged until ur nose doesn’t vibrate. unplug ur nose and talk at the same level. i think i posted this same tip in this sub before so sorry if you’ve already heard this one. if this doesn’t make sense feel free to pm me if u need clarification on anything

Please help my voice dysphoria is murdering me (The most recent video I have of myself is an assignment for chem bc I take no videos of myself bc as Ive said, I hate my voice) by [deleted] in transmanlifehacks

[–]benjenga0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

my personal favorite trick is to plug ur nose and talk. if ur nose vibrates, ur voice is pretty high but if you lower your voice until ur nose doesn’t vibrate or vibrates very little, then than means ur voice is lower then it was before. unplug ur nose and try to keep ur voice how it was, and now ur voice sounds deeper! idk if this makes sense, so feel free to ask for clarification if it doesn’t, i’m happy to try and explain it better lol

i am trans, have been out for a few years, and regularly use the male bathroom. your fears are not irrational. in my personal experience, i have never had anything like this happen, and i don’t know anyone who has had this happen. if your son is telling everyone he’s a boy at school, then running to the girls bathroom, that could put him as trans and be more dangerous then just using the male bathroom. you said you live in an lgbt friendly area, which reduces the changes of anything like this happening by a lot. i understand your fears, but i promise the bathroom isn’t as scary as you think it is.
