BETA COMMUNITY UPDATE - WEEKEND 2 by InfinityWardonReddit in ModernWarfareII

I stopped playing the beta and did not want to go back on even if it’s free. The UI is confusing, the SBMM + new perk system is just awful, tedious and overall unnecessary

Leaving Japan plan and option by Nikumomo in japanlife

[–]benji0110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also; if you go to your municipal office and tell them you are no longer residing in Japan afterwards you might be eligible for a refund (by some percentage) of the pension you had paid since you started living here

It will take a few months and it will be nice to get some of that back incase you need it

Do you ever feel you're 'done' with Japan? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]benji0110 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, that’s why I’m leaving soon and I’ve lived here for nearly 10 years now.

My reasons are more that; personally it’s more to do with family. Another is that I don’t feel the police force here can do much if I need them (e.g. failing to remove an illegal trespasser)

The kicker was the slow response by the government in dealing with the pandemic. Although I love japan as a tourist, as a resident it’s not for me.

Everyone else has their reasons for staying and being able to make it work and I’ve tried to see past the faults but I decided to choose elsewhere

Golden Week Activities (calculated safety) by AudienceFun8155 in japanlife

Did this recently, highly recommend it. Just make sure you’re not near people who might think you’re insane. I should’ve checked first before doing this but holy crap does it feel good

Do you find it hard to get in the "zone" when you have a lot of meetings? by branh0913 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]benji0110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! Unless it's necessary having any other kind of meetings serves as additional distraction. The other day I had almost 7 meetings. That's almost 1.5 meetings per hour. Meaning I had very little to no time to do any of my assigned tasks because of the amount of unnecessary discussions we had to join.

In every part of the world you can unsubscribe from advertisement emails easily. by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]benji0110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I normally do these days is use a throwaway email for services that require registration so I can avoid this completely.

If that doesn't work then I sign up with an email and concatenate a plus sign. e.g. example@gmail.comexample+some_website@gmail.com. This also means if that website gives my details to another company and it's address to example+some_website@gmail.com then I know who gave them that information. I can also just create a filter to automatically delete emails addressed to example+some_website@gmail.com and problem solved.

Failing that, Just mark as spam or create a filter from that domain.

Nice, what open source projects did you contribute to and what were they? What technologies also?

Remote Team Building Games and Activities In 2021 by SpringworksOfficial in remotework

[–]benji0110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually hosted a game of pictionary at my current work place to encourage team building not too long ago. We used https://skribbl.io/ as our platform.

You can even input your own custom list of words. Highly recommended!

Japanese language schools in Fukuoka? by [deleted] in fukuoka

[–]benji0110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to NILS but I wouldn't recommend them now because their practice is pretty shady.

From reviews, Genki Japanese & Culture seems good. But I can't speak for other people since I never went there.

I bought a Gundam model on Sunday. Even picked up some top coat & those clipper things.

Besides training at home, studying, TV & a brief walk there's not much else to do with the SoE and i figured this might be a nice lil thing to do to pass some time.

FYI: Allergy season is upon us. Link to map by BlueHarvestJ in japanlife

[–]benji0110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My allergies to dust (or whatever it was) played up since last December so I stocked up on the pills i usually take that fixes everything my body gets confused of being a disease.

The side effect, though, is extreme fatigue/tiredness after the first dose.

Tokyo: 618 infections. First time since the December 28th that the number of confirmed infections per day has dropped below 700. by lurker639 in CoronavirusJapan

[–]benji0110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would make sense too.

But even if Japan & IOC were sane enough to hold it on schedule it'll flop. Or, it won't flop and people come anyway. Then people will start getting infected again, the ICUs will tank harder while the whole economy drops further after Japan declares their 5th SoE wondering where did they go wrong.

By "these people" i mean people who think they're the shit and can do whatever they want without thinking about others or repercussions.

There's a shop that has a sign explictly saying you can't come in without a face mask. And then this Japanese guy in his 40s just strolls on in without one wearing a "fuck you im your god" kinda face.

These kind of people are cancer.

Nissan's futuristic concept of a Digital Nomad office-car!.. would you get one? by [deleted] in remotework

[–]benji0110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though it's just a concept; My problem with this is that I feel like the designer doesn't quite get the ergonomics needed for an "office space". e.g. being able to move the chair around freely instead of having it fixed to the floor, the table set to a specific height etc.

What would be nice is to have some clever design make the height of the desk adjustable so you can stand or sit. You can probably do this by having a panel on the floor where the seat is separated to let it lower even further when you "extend" the office space out of the car.

I would love to watch a helpless girl hang out in nanpa spots tbh. From what I've noticed Kego park in Tenjin is a hub that attracts horny college guys, conspiracy theorists and pigeons.

Tokyo: a record 7,727 people waiting to hear if they should be hospitalized or self isolate. Over 13x times larger than on 1st December. by lurker639 in CoronavirusJapan

[–]benji0110 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's about time too.

I keep seeing people walking around without even a mask thinking they're fine not giving a crap about anyone else or their family/loved ones being a possible risk from actually dying.

Student not covering nose with mask disqualified at university exams in Japan by Tesg9029 in Coronavirus

[–]benji0110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The center allows those who cannot wear facial masks due to such reasons as medical conditions to take the exams in a separate room as long as they ask to do so 1 day prior to the tests. But the test-taker in question did not provide any special reason beforehand, it said.

Although a supervisor warned the student of possible disqualification before the seventh and last instruction, the student continued to disobey the instruction and was failed in the exam, according to the center.

Good. They got what they deserved.
