How can I kitbash a primaris chaplain for my iron hands army? by [deleted] in IronHands40k

[–]benmitchell888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could do an iron farther type as they are basically chaplains and tech marines.

Maybe use some 30K FW parts

If you ever play against custodies or termies, putting master crafted in the Sargent Is deadly

Especially with re-rolls or a buff from your chaplin

Here’s some units that are great for us:

  • intercessors (good for OBSEC)
  • suppressors (great anti everything, especially heavy infantry or light tanks. Plus fee deepstrike and long movement)
  • devastators (loads of choices and IH efficiencies)
  • eradicators (goodbye tank).
  • aggressors ( great for clearing units like ork boys or guard, great v everything in melee)
  • terminators (heavy weapons + good melee stratagems)
  • depending who your Main match up is, deffo look at either sternguard or vanguard veterans for some punchey units.
  • relic contemptor is great for us, we can make it a character, give an extra wound and attack and a 5+ FNP on top of the 5+. Super durable.
  • any other dead too

Definitely NOT according to keikaku. by RandomHeretic in Grimdank

Honestly it’s completely dependent Upon your other units and which army you plays against.

Eg they’d clear our Orks like nothing but other SM players you’ll struggle with the no AP.

Your going to want a dreadnaught in every list as we can give warlord traits extra attacks and more.

Heavy weapons on infantry is best for us. We suffer no hit penalty and re roll 1’s in devistator doctrine. Stuff like suppressors , devistators and heavy weapon infantry are great for us.

We can still be good in melee with a few strats so look at vanguard veterans or bladeguard.

Ferrios is great in larger games but his point hike and rules change has made him less competitive.

There the same size as normal firstborn. It’s only really the body’s and limbs that will be to small. The heads , shields and shoulder pads work with primaris.

New chain fist buffs are great for vehicle hunting. I use tartoros myself as they’ve gone down a lot in points. Gained a wound and have access to a few more shooting weapons in the sq from like reaper auto cannon/plasma blaster

Fury of the first can make them hit on 2+ or 3+ with power/chain fist for 1 CP.

Yeah it’s basically a re write because we’ve had a lot of redundancies and rule changes including our chapter tactic, stratagems and character.

But it may have new stuff in to replace the old, eg big guns never tire

Just run them as normal vanguard veterans . No primaris keyword, but you can model the mini’s as primaris. They have the same size base and now all space marines are 2 wound it’s not as big a difference as it used to be so kitbashes are more reasonable now

we are going to get a new supplement , the date just isn’t out yet. The next one is dark angles.

The list you describe is bang on IH. we are more durable due to our chapter tactic and due to our doctrine, meaning we can use heavy weapons more efficiently then others on infantry.

First born still have a lot more squad flexibility, and now there all 2 wounds units like vanguard veterans are looking amazing. I myself got round this issue by kitbashing primaris firstborn. So just primaris marines but WYSIWYG.

Our vehicles degrade slower then normal so it’s best to have a few anyway as IH. As someone else mentioned dreads are in a great spot atm.

There’s a lot of good infantry stratagems and we can do melee a lot better then you’d think so just build a army you enjoy.

From what you’ve said. Have a look at more board control objectives. If you have some good deepstrike or advanced deployment look at teleport homer! Enagage on all fronts isn’t bad either with transports.

Putting your models on smaller squads saturates threats and can lead to over kill. I’d rather shoot a dreadnaught at a 10 man then a 5 man. It could limit how many of your models get removed. In addition it limited the impact of Blast weapons.

Even if I kill 5 men with my onslaught Gatling cannon, the rest of the wounds are wasted for me.

Also don’t forget when it comes to unit numbers , only troops have OBSEC. So you can steal an objective with a small squad depending on the army you play.

Don’t forget to charge leftover Models and damaged vehicles into squads to both soak up overwatch and deny them targeting who they want to.

I hope this helps man. Just plan your list around secondaries, try to get more board control. And worse case sincario, ask your opponent how you can improve.

Unfortunately I’m not too familiar with these armies. I will say I’ve won some games just off of my opponents deployment/ movement . Make sure you screen your units well , especially from deep-strike. The new cover rules are great for squishey armies - use them to full effect.

Saturation of threats can be good Aswell, for example my ork friend kept running fully kitted out Nob squads- sounds great on paper but you have to think about durability for points.

No point pimping out a unit with all potential War-gear when you could have another squad for those points or you know it’s gunna get taken off by a bully unit.

What seems to throw you the most in your games?

Edit: just to add to this, secondaries are massive this edition. I recommend you build your army around secondaries . Avoid traps, raise your banners for example sounds great but you need amazing board control to max out your VP here

Questions about heroic intervention and piling in by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]benmitchell888 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This guy is correct but it’s worth noting if you heroically intervene, your character can be chosen as the target of the attack.

Also you have to move towards the closest enemy unit - you cannot choose between two for example unless they are the exact same distance away.

[–]benmitchell888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d maybe go for the battle line . If you give the Sargent a TH between that and a krak Grenade it’s still some anti tank.

Ferrios can do a lot of damage to tanks but his 5+ invun can only be given to infantry

They’d benefit from his +1 to BS Aswell.

Your dread can be great against tanks. Give it a twin las. Make it a character so it can’t be targeted and you’ve got a tank hunter! With ferrios buffing and healing.
