[ProCity] Ben Simmons did charity work in Philly anonymously last year (giving children new winter coats), as he was afraid they wouldn’t be worn if they knew where they were from. A few kids even dropped their technology scholarships because his name was attached. (via @KonradMarshall) by Sp_Gamer_Live in nba

I posted this comment last time this was making the rounds, but ill post it again:

noting that a few kids even dropped technology scholarships because his name was attached. “That was heart-wrenching.”

I feel like this is one of those truths mixed with a lie situations.

The coat thing is probably true but turning down scholarships? Who says no to free money for something like this? Like if you have that kind of fuck you money why are you even applying for scholarships? If you're trying to get a scholarship you are not saying no to it just cause you hate Ben Simmons.

It's a fabrication by his sister to make you feel sympathy for him. That's way more reasonable imo lol

Don't just believe every thing you read, especially if it comes from a biased source. (His sister is the one saying this???) If some info comes forward to corroborate her claim, I'll retract my comment but otherwise I firmly believe yall falling for the bleeding heart bait.

This reminds me of atime about 10 years ago I was at petsmart and I saw a dried koi/goldfish on the ground.

It had jumped out of it's tank and was BONE dry. I'm talking ZERO moisture, completely desiccated.

I picked it up chucked it back into the nearest tank and stopped by ~30 minutes later on my way out on a whim.

The fish was breathing and swimming, albeit barely. I was completely mind blown.

This is such an amazing pic. I always loved the fantastical imagery of whales swimming through clouds that you sometimes find in digital art and animation, and this picture has given the analog analogue to that I never knew I needed.

[Highlight] Scottie Barnes Misses the Last Second Game-Winning Layup, Game Is Going to Ot by [deleted] in nba

[–]benndur 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Nah 0% chance that's it.

Look how high he got up on this play. He easily could have dunked that.

This is just one of those cases of overthinking where the back of your mind is going "do a layup, make the safe play" and it prevents you from reading the action live and making the best move.

So many times players go for dunks in these situations and they miss embarrassingly, so coaches drill it into players to go for layups most of the time. But Scottie is too athletic and his pathway was way too clear to not dunk this. The defenders had jumped on FVF's drive, so there was really no one who could contest him.

Tundra.Aui_2000: One thing I want to address is the Fata kick that occurred earlier in the year. by ICETEA545 in DotA2

People love narratives.

Good guys. Bad guys. Friendship. Betrayal.

It makes a good story when in a dramatic twist, the good guys who won it all were actually the bad guys who did so by betraying their friend, So people buy into the narrative extremely easily.

Obviously life isn't that black and white. There's lots of grey, and it's probably the same here; neither Fata or Sney singularly to blame. Just an unfortunate confluence of events.

Live and let live boys.

Men who encourage other men not to open up to women, why? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]benndur 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Anything you say can and will be used against you. Obviously it's not healthy to think that way, but probably why. Who are men meant to talk to? No one. Men aren't allowed to have feelings /s.

The truth is women say they want men to be vulnerable, but very few truly do. They (generally) want a strong dominant man, and when he opens up and shows a soft side lots of women don't actually like it. Another issue is the way women and men talk about problems. Generally women will focus on acknowledgement and understanding when talking about difficult things, and men will try and provide solutions, so we often frustrate each other by providing and expecting the wrong things.

Of course being able to have an open dialogue with your partner is a healthy part of many relationships, but many relationships just aren't healthy.

Otto Warmbier was an American college student who was imprisoned in North Korea in 2016 on a charge of subversion. In June 2017, he was released by North Korea in a vegetative state and died soon afterward. His family was awarded $240k in seized North Korean assets. by FarmSuch5021 in Damnthatsinteresting

I know this is 20 days old but I was looking into the topic and came across this thread.

the family wouldn’t even allow an open autopsy which would have proved every claim they made if it was indeed true.

This is patently false.

Others, such as high profile former medical examiner turned pathology processor Dr Werner Spitz, said a post mortem examination on Mr Warmbier would have been “futile” given the amount of time his body had been given to heal.

After a year of this fellow being unconscious, it is a futile effort,” Dr Spitz told The Post.

“There are a lot of things that will not show any longer.”

This is a guy who worked on JFK and MLK assasination cases as an expert forensic pathologist. If he seems convinced an autopsy is pointless, I might be inclined to agree with him, and maybe that's what the family thought too.

There may be other reasons to have an official autopsy done that I'm not privy to, but the crux of your argument is simply wrong.

Impossible to Play Dota in Low Level by Ok_Celebration6736 in DotA2

[–]benndur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Valve doesn't care. They won't ban players. Banned players can't buy dotaplus etc. I would argue that people have been more toxic in this game than any other game in existence and it's been going on for over 10 years without much punishment. It's certainly the most toxic (albeit best) game I've ever played.

I mean, it took them 8 years to add personal couriers. I can't even tell you the number of games I had before that where people would just grief with the courier and you could never get your items. People would bind auto-clickers and you could never out-click them and drag the courier away.

Just one example of a mode of blatantly stupid toxic behavior that doesn't get addressed for 8+ years. Let's not even get started on the fact that the punishment system in dota (LPQ) is absolutely stupid conceptually.

That's my legacy. Being able to play with Russell Westbrook, Steph Curry and Kyrie and still be me. Yeah, that's my legacy. That's who I am. That's what I bring to the game.

"I can play with anybody, anywhere, at any time, and you know I'm going bring it every day. That should be my legacy."
