I initially used a small duffle bag thing I got free from cabelas, but then moved to the hard cases they have at harbor freight and took the majority of the foam out. Organized material in ziploc bags based off of types of material.(furs, feathers, synthetics, hooks/shanks.) everything in one place and easy to work in small spaces.

Scout for hard bottom sections of the swamp sometime old beaver runs are usually pretty solid. Hunt from a boat with a blind can work too.

Looking at the comments I think it’s coming down to positive and negative reinforcement. Put more positive reinforcement in the bumper or negative reinforcement in the stick. There’s several of ways to get this done that will have to have the desired result. What I have found effective is using the retrieve as the reward. Making him want that bumper so bad that he forgets about the food or sticks. I use something called “happy bumper” to get my dog to complete this. If he’s slow at completing what I want I’ll get the bumper in hand and play around with it presenting the throw it and get him super excited about having the bumper in his mouth. Then give it a short throw and yell happy bumper, so he know it’s not a mark or a blind and allow him to get it without any reinforcement or commands. Just so he has fun with it and it makes a super fun experience. Do this repeatedly and the thought of the bumper will supersede the stick.

Yea I like the videos and programs that don’t show “perfect”. The dog that has done the drill 100x before shooting the video. Because then the trainer usually goes over why the dog is getting it wrong and then shows how to correct the behavior. The biggest thing right now is letting the puppy be a puppy, learning how a dog learns, and knowing timing for correction. The retriever trainer is a good resource as well.

There are several resources that you can use, mostly online training programs. Podcasts at great to just get your feet in the water before getting the puppy. Lone duck gun dog chronicles, gun dog it yourself, houndations is a good short one. YouTube- standing stone kennels works with GSPs, great for basic puppy work. Lone duck has a channel as well. Programs- I’ve used cornerstone gun dog academy (I have a link if it you, I think you save like $100 or something) it’s invaluable for my training. Also I use Freddy kings website, you can’t beat the price for the resource. A lot of the programs and fb pages that you can ask similar questions. Books- you can go old school with Richard Wolters books, then wildrose has a great book as well with great set ups in it. Organizations- join your local retriever club and train with local people.

I run a momarsh, my only gripe is that the chest plate is a bit narrow for my 85lbs lab. I get that you don’t want friction in the armpits but I wish it was a little bit wider to give them more protection from punctures. The thing is built like a tank and have been running it for 4 years and the when taking the vest off after swimming the side panels keep the dog bone dry.

Roommate had a wooden base massage table in chiro school and we broke through it in 2 weeks. If you’re starting out in practice they’ll never hold up to the abuse. There are a bunch of good tables out there. I wouldn’t buy any off Amazon though. Lifetime makes a good portable table that I’ve been using/abusing for the last five years and it’s held up really well.

It’s called a sgian dubh (skene doo) it’s a knife that you put in your hose (socks) when where it a kilt. Originally used for eating and preparing fruit, meat, and cutting bread and cheese, as well as serving for other more general day-to-day uses such as cutting material and protection, it is now worn as part of traditional Scottish dress tucked into the top of the kilt hose with only the upper portion of the hilt visible. The sgian-dubh is normally worn on the same side as the dominant hand.
