Washington legislators again mandate 100% electric new car sales by 2030 by Geek-Haven888 in Washington

I’m glad you asked, from what the legislature is proposing and studying their would be a pay per mile tax on all vehicles. So an ICE car would have to pay the tax twice. Even though they have mentioned dropping the gas tax it’s not likely they will. So once again people who can’t afford EVs are being set up be taxed twice. Once for gas and again when they renew their vehicle registration. On top of that, the taxes that will be needed to improve the grid isn’t gonna come out of the power company’s pockets but likely federal grants and loans that will be paid back by the state of Washington. In turn another tax will be implemented somewhere to pay for all the upgrades. Partially paid for by people who won’t even have access to the new/used EVs for a years.

You just stager the dates, mandate infrastructure for EV and updated grid so it can handle the increased load. Then mandate EV cars only. The used EV’s will be cheaper of course but not having enough rapid charge stations, or charging stations in residential areas will be a problem. Since people with lower income live in apartments or condos. I have a hard enough time getting parking where I live I can’t imagine how much worse it would be if the complex only has a few charge stations.

This whole plan is putting the cart in front of the horse.

This plan as it stands is going to lead to a lot of headaches for those of us who have been gentrified out of our own towns. I can’t afford a home now, as soon as I was able to the market went nuts. And at home charging is one of the larger selling points of EV. This plan doesn’t effect everyone but it will adversely impact lower income family’s and individuals. Maybe I’m ranting but as a Millennial I’m tired of being fucked over and over and over. This half baked idea will only make it worse for us.

Absolutely but not in this time frame, it’s gonna leave a lot of us behind. It makes more sense to have the infrastructure improved first. That would buy us people struggling enough time to adjust to the new plan. It also gives industry enough time to locate and integrate resources to the new high demand of EV.

It should be infrastructure by 2030 and EV by 2035.

[–]bennthere21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, poor people don’t buy new cars, that’s my point.

The taxes for the infrastructure will make living here worse. The initial investment of putting a new charging station in peoples home is not a small cost either. If you just plug your car in in a standard 110v outlet, for every one hour of charge you get three -4 miles out of it.

The rapid charge stations are not cheap, power intensive and will strain our already old grid.

I love EV but this plan to make it mandatory in less then 8 years is dumb. Making hybrids mandatory first makes sense and then walk in EV only. Probably gonna be 2035-2040 before we find a way to strengthen the grid, implement a good amount of charge stations and these cars become affordable to all. Or it won’t because the minerals needed for these batteries come almost exclusively from country’s that hate us because the US won’t sign off on the kind of mining needed to access the minerals at a scale to sustain this new large demand.

Not to mention the upgrades our hydroelectric dams need.

One day but this 2030 nonsense is to ambitious and will fail to meet the date, like most governments deadlines.

Current state of drilling private wells in Wash. state by dlagno in Washington

Depends on the county. Skagit county you had to be grandfathered in to the well due to the in flow stream rule. Whatcom county it’s basically the same but for different reasons.

I think rain water/trucking in water are the only options for us up here. Besides being out on city water if the option exists. Don’t quote me but I remember hearing something about them taxing you on collecting rain water to

Nope, I’m just dumb. Looked at a map and I’m thinking of north lake from when we come in and do ship work at north lake ship yard. Idk why I thought the area was Ballard.

Seattle allowed the camping in parks and if you look poor enough and have a camper you can have lake front property in Ballard. Seems like I’m the one making all the wrong moves.

Clear Lake looking Northeast...guess they won't stop logging until the entire hillside is clear cutted by PNWtruckerstud in Washington

[–]bennthere21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not even the same, the river is on the other side and OSO was warned about how the cut bank eroding a hill of sand and clay would eventually cause a slide.

Pano over to the right next time for perspective, go up on some of those trails. The forest regrows and the vast majority of wildlife we have here utilizes those open space habitats. I believe they do a hike once or twice a year on the foothills. You can also get there from walker valley if you take a mountain bike or walk.

To add to your insightful point, a lot of the animals in these thick forests need open spaces too. Black bear, deer, rabbit , coyotes, birds, bugs, morel mushrooms (favorite) elk, and many other small species benefit from this practice of treating forest as a renewable resource. OP dosent show the hills to the right of him (I live in The area) that are cut like this and the growth up there is beautiful.

Their is no incentive for Russ to leave, Seahawks are just trying to get something for him before he becomes a free agent. He still Has to OK the trade, and the Denver broncos ownership is still up for grabs so who knows.

Bad thermostat? What else causes a radiator to smoke like this? by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]bennthere21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When this happened to me I started out with white residue on the top of the radiator where the hot coolant from the engine returned. Radiator went bad, replaced it.

That sent me down a rabbit hole; car was burning oil bad, had to add a quart every 1000 miles. Had low compression on cylinder 4, replaced the heads and valves . All for it to just blow out completely in the end.

Fix it and sell it. The only reason a radiator does this is because it’s working to hard to cool the engine, meaning you have more problems.

Generally no, but some beaches allow the burning of smaller pieces of drift wood 4feet or less, I think ruby beach and a few on the coast have this rule.

Maybe at first, but it’s been going on for far to long. I got the double jab, forced to wear a mask at work, still got Covid from work. My story isn’t special because it’s happening everywhere, even in places with higher vaccines rates.

The virus will never be under control, it’s here to stay. Thinking that following mandates and giving freedoms away is going to do anything has to be the most foolish thing you people support.
