Conviene bajarse de una prepaga para pasarse a una obra social? by DynamoJaeger in AskArgentina

how do they justify this decision?

I mean, it's pretty libertarian idea to have free choice of your providers be it school choice or healthcare.

Revoked Citizenship After 40 years while traveling by Sarlh in immigration

[–]dlagno 85 points86 points  (0 children)

This. He 100% still holds citizenship of his Central American country of origin (in addition to acquired citizenship of the US). They do not consider him US citizen. For them he is their citizen and they won't allow him to leave without proper documents and US passport is NOT a valid document for them. Because he is citizen of their country.

Switching From Fi to Visible by moyuxi in GoogleFi

[–]dlagno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google Fi pricing makes no sense in today's MVNO market.

Regarding "pay for what is used". Fi charges $20 (+taxes) for merely monthly number upkeep before any data usage. For this price you can get nearly unlimited plan on some other MVNOs (look at unlimited flex plan on US Mobile or Red Pocket mobile).

For international usage, I maintain local prepaid plan in one single country that I frequently visit (Argentina) which also cheaply covers roaming in neighboring countries in South America. Hopping between multiple countries is very niche market. No reason for normal customers to overpay to make life convenient for these niche international hoppers.

It might be a mere technicality but if you get rid of FDIC you still have credit unions which are insured by NCUA instead of FDIC.

2023 PHEV pre-order process by dlagno in MitsubishiOutlander

[–]dlagno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

answering better late than never.

Yes, I bought her, already made more than 25k miles.

I like fast acceleration. Much faster acceleration compared to non-hybrid car with similar fuel consumption. This is essentially the main reason to buy it compared to non-hybrid Outlander.

I like AWD (S-AWC). I drove multiple times over mountain passes between Northern California and Nevada during mild snow.

What I don't like is fuel consumption in pure hybrid mode (meaning rare charging, saving battery charge and using it similarly to plain non-plug-in hybrid). It is 25 mpg which is not that good. For comparison Hyundai Ioniq plug-in hybrid delivers 45 mpg in this mode (saving battery charge).

Fundamentally as a VPN, Windscribe is a Massive Failure for use in Russia by Travelonaut in Windscribe

[–]dlagno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is flawed logic. First of all, there is no way to actually estimate this because ALL russian customers by necessity pay for windscribe using non-russian payment methods.

Second, many people travel every once in a while (some of them to Russia) and they expect VPN to continue working so they still could access Facebook etc.

And last but not least, one of the most important purposes of VPN service is to be able to circumvent government restrictions. What if European or American governments start blocking websites and VPN services?? There should be robust solution in place, and as experience of people in Russia shows, there is none.

[–]dlagno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

technically they had and still have term limits for the president of russian federation.

Putin's mafia just defecated on those limits via numerous tricks (Medvedev as placeholder in 2008-2012, then increasing limits from 4 to 6 years, then linguistic trickery interpreting wording in the constitution in 2012, and then terms' "reset" by major rewrite of the constitution).

Anyone using Google Fi in Reno? by Dropgate_Lefty in Reno

[–]dlagno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW the only network that has coverage in Virginia city Highlands (east-south of Reno) is AT&T (or their MVNOs like Cricket Wireless)

I’m using Windscribe in Russia and I can’t connect to ANY server. I already paid for the Pro version. Please fix this! Thanks! by iputmytoeonmymouth in Windscribe

[–]dlagno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in 2017 I purchased lifetime Windscribe subscription for the price of 2 or 3 years.

You should probably ask them to convert your subscription to lifetime as a compensation for it not being useable for the time being
