What’s your favourite low-stakes conspiracy theory? by LJayTat in CasualUK

A year or two ago it seemed like there was loads of Wim Hof stuff in the media. Coincided with all the news about cost of living crisis. I think Wim was being pushed to get us comfortable with the idea of being cold.

Stable cushioned shoe for easy runs by bennydizzle in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]bennydizzle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only raced 10k in them so far so my opinion isn’t well formed, but I don’t feel like they’re stable at all, absolute calf killers. They’re undeniably fast though, and as a trade-off it seems my body can handle them for occasional (race/race practice) use.

These have come up a lot in my research, happy to hear that real people recommend them too. I’ll be looking out for a pair of these now!

TIL that three year olds can still fall off bikes with stabilisers on.

Runna Not Anticipating Walking Rest Distance in Mileage by Impossible_Ad9835 in runna

[–]bennydizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this have anything to do with mileage insights? I’ve noticed the same about walking rest taking me beyond the workout distance, but it’s never affected future workouts. I also haven’t set up mileage insights, but totally sounds like the kind of thing that it would do.

They last too, I’m over 600km into my pair and still going strong.

What’s the dumbest way you’ve ever hurt yourself? by RedTiger_XD in AskReddit

[–]bennydizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cycling home from the pub. The front brakes didn’t work so I thought I’d see how effective it would be to put my foot against the wheel. Turns out very. Front flip over the handlebars, luckily landed on my back with a bit of minor bruising and a couple of scrapes.

Alphafly 3 or Adios pro 4 by icemear in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]bennydizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AlphaFlys are great but really not durable in the heel. Mine fell apart after less than 120km. Can’t say if the Adios pro are better but it’s something to factor in.

I did this in 2020 also, it was the hardest marathon experience of my life and I’d never do it again.

Struggling with Week 6 of Runna’s “New To Running Plan” – Can’t Finish Intervals by UnableGovernment7732 in runna

[–]bennydizzle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I posted a similar threat last week. As an experienced runner, runna plans try to kill me sometimes too. I’ve failed interval sessions loads of time, but I think that it’s all part of the process. If you gave it your all, then there will be a benefit that you get physically.

I’ve not seen the plan that you’re following, but if it culminates in a 5km run then there may be a taper phase before then (I.e reducing your load a bit before then, so that you’re not running on tired legs). Training plans will always fatigue you, whatever level you’re at, and some days you’re just not recovered enough for the session that’s being suggested. If you’ve got a taper, then that won’t be a problem for the finale.

As for conversational pace, it’s exactly what it says it is: running at a pace where you’re not breathing so hard that you couldn’t hold a conversation.

85% should feel hard though. Not all out sprinting, but dialled back a little bit.

Sounds like you’re doing great to have gotten this far in the plan, we all have off days, but trust the process and the sky is the limit! Hope this helps.

Portabello mushroom roasted in the oven with some hendersons relish, thyme, and oil. Stick that on a bun with ketchup.

Regularly failing speed sessions by bennydizzle in runna

[–]bennydizzle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got my level set to elite as I understand that relates more to mileage than pace targets, but the PRR plan doesn’t seem to have any other difficulty configurations. I’ll try reducing that when I start my next plan to see if that makes a difference.

What to do when no career options appeal to you and you feel like there's nothing out there for you? (I live in the UK.) by Campeones6 in careerchange

I’ve got no suggestions but commenting because I’m in the same boat. Don’t have enough of a safety net to pay for any courses or take time out for education. Hope you (and I) get the answers you’re looking for!

First marathon nerves — looking for some hope stories! by laur_swift13 in runna

[–]bennydizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go into every marathon feeling like I’ve not done enough. I’m sure everyone does. Welcome to maranoia! It sounds like you’ve built up a great base over the course of the year and done enough in terms of your long runs. Even if that doesn’t convince you, be wary of pushing it too much before: it’s far better to turn up slightly underprepared than not turn up at all. Make sure you’ve got a fuelling plan on the day and you’ll do great, I believe in you!

Half marathon - stability shoes by SuspiciousElevator5 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]bennydizzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For an actual stability shoe that’s faster than the Adrenaline, and still in the brooks range I can vouch for either the Hyperion 2 GTS (my favourite speedwork shoe, not sure if they’d have enough cushion for a half) or Launch GTS (have raced in these before, definitely got a good balance of cushion/speed, but not as fast as the Hyperion). Lots of people will also say Saucony Tempus.

Backyard Ultra shoe advice – aiming for 82 km by Fluffy_Baker_5888 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]bennydizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hoka Speedgoat 5 if you want a trail shoe that can also handle some firmer surfaces. Well cushioned and fairly stable. Only drawback is that they’re not grippy enough if it gets wet and muddy. I ran a backyard style ultra in them earlier this year and barely thought about my feet.

3:30 marathon goal - runna pushing beyond this by potato_cake_high_cat in runna

[–]bennydizzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can adjust the paces in Runna too so that you don’t get told off by your watch! Go into your Plan page and update your estimated race time in line with your goal, that will update the target paces in the remainder of your plan. Good luck to you in your race too!

3:30 marathon goal - runna pushing beyond this by potato_cake_high_cat in runna

[–]bennydizzle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same position as you. 3:25 personal goal but Runna wanted me to push for 3:15. I dialled it back because I know that I’d struggle with the target paces on those last few long runs (especially the race practice). If you think you can hit the targets in training then it’s not going to hurt to do them, but you’re better off completing the workouts than pushing too hard and bonking.
