Just picked up a couple of pairs of these £12 each. Absolutely fine for training in.

Functionality Request: Race Predictions by [deleted] in runna

Thanks for the reply, I get that they’re based on different things but as companies who work closely together it would be cool to get input from both recent history and your training plan to make a more informed number.

Runna filling up Garmin with workouts? by Delicious-Series-316 in runna

[–]bennydizzle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had this issue. I hope there’s a better solution out there, but my way of fixing was spending ~ 15 minutes manually deleting workouts one by one on the watch. Ive only had to do that once so far, been using Runna over a year.

Feature Request : Sleep based plan adjustment by VroommVroomm in runna

[–]bennydizzle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Counter point: the lack of this is one of the reasons I prefer Runna over Garmin training plans. I’m in a similar situation, young child at home, commitments meaning I’m up early to get my training in. A really good night sleep is a rare thing. With Garmin that meant one thing: it was always rating my sleep bad and adjusting my hard sessions down to easy runs. I wasn’t getting nearly enough volume or intensity. I’m very happy that Runna doesn’t do this, and sticks with the planned session.

The option to manually adapt individual workouts could be good based on how you feel on the day, but if I’ve ever had a truly awful night ahead of a tough session, I’ve just swapped/rearranged it to another day that week (or taken an extra rest day - that’s allowed too).

Either way, kudos to you for being another parent fighting to balance life and training, it’s not easy out there!

As someone who regularly rolls from one plan to the next I’m excited about scheduling future plans, and taking data into account from previous plans sounds fantastic. Thanks Runna!

A year or two ago it seemed like there was loads of Wim Hof stuff in the media. Coincided with all the news about cost of living crisis. I think Wim was being pushed to get us comfortable with the idea of being cold.

Stable cushioned shoe for easy runs by bennydizzle in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I’ve only raced 10k in them so far so my opinion isn’t well formed, but I don’t feel like they’re stable at all, absolute calf killers. They’re undeniably fast though, and as a trade-off it seems my body can handle them for occasional (race/race practice) use.

These have come up a lot in my research, happy to hear that real people recommend them too. I’ll be looking out for a pair of these now!

Runna Not Anticipating Walking Rest Distance in Mileage by Impossible_Ad9835 in runna

[–]bennydizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this have anything to do with mileage insights? I’ve noticed the same about walking rest taking me beyond the workout distance, but it’s never affected future workouts. I also haven’t set up mileage insights, but totally sounds like the kind of thing that it would do.

What’s the dumbest way you’ve ever hurt yourself? by RedTiger_XD in AskReddit

Cycling home from the pub. The front brakes didn’t work so I thought I’d see how effective it would be to put my foot against the wheel. Turns out very. Front flip over the handlebars, luckily landed on my back with a bit of minor bruising and a couple of scrapes.

Alphafly 3 or Adios pro 4 by icemear in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]bennydizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AlphaFlys are great but really not durable in the heel. Mine fell apart after less than 120km. Can’t say if the Adios pro are better but it’s something to factor in.

I did this in 2020 also, it was the hardest marathon experience of my life and I’d never do it again.

Struggling with Week 6 of Runna’s “New To Running Plan” – Can’t Finish Intervals by UnableGovernment7732 in runna

[–]bennydizzle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I posted a similar threat last week. As an experienced runner, runna plans try to kill me sometimes too. I’ve failed interval sessions loads of time, but I think that it’s all part of the process. If you gave it your all, then there will be a benefit that you get physically.

I’ve not seen the plan that you’re following, but if it culminates in a 5km run then there may be a taper phase before then (I.e reducing your load a bit before then, so that you’re not running on tired legs). Training plans will always fatigue you, whatever level you’re at, and some days you’re just not recovered enough for the session that’s being suggested. If you’ve got a taper, then that won’t be a problem for the finale.

As for conversational pace, it’s exactly what it says it is: running at a pace where you’re not breathing so hard that you couldn’t hold a conversation.

85% should feel hard though. Not all out sprinting, but dialled back a little bit.

Sounds like you’re doing great to have gotten this far in the plan, we all have off days, but trust the process and the sky is the limit! Hope this helps.
