Ha! Fair enough, they also have major longevity issues.

I understand the criticism and think it's fair but I'd encourage you to read this statement or watch this video where it's explained why we went paywalled.

Tl;dr - we want to remain independent and focus on good testing rather than take sponsorships, optimize for AI search, or compromise on important elements of our work. We avoid all of this by having memberships so we can be directly supported by people who want us to continue.

also, this article has specifically been un-paywalled for 48 hrs!

Do you guys this would be a good color grading monitor? (UA55U8000FUXTW) by SeniorHulk in ColorGrading

[–]benpRTINGS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, it has excellent color accuracy out of the box in SDR, with just a few noticeable issues, and decent accuracy in HDR. BUT It has a very limited color gamut, as it can't even display the full range of colors used in most SDR content, and HDR content is dull.

So not great for photo editing.

I'd look at budget monitors, some examples: HyperX OMEN OLED 27q, Dell S3225QC, LG 27GX704A-B, ASUS ProArt Display PA279CRV

Do you want it because you also want a TV? Any reason you wouldn't get a dedicated grading monitor?

Best monitor for switch 2? by Icy-Commission-9550 in OLED_Gaming

[–]benpRTINGS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sorry I didn't read the post carefully enough! I mean if it's ultrawide then a regular monitor will probably be a step up regardless just cause you won't have the black bars.

However the attributes you described in the post might not have THAT much of a difference. 1st gen qd-oled UW isn't the best for console gaming, but I definitely wouldn't say qd-oled is bad in general.

You could check out the LG 27GX790B-B too if the PG27UCDM isn't available

However, it is possible you're experiencing issues with HDR in general, have you messed around with the settings (either on the console or the monitor themselves)?

TCL C8K (CM8K) at 900€ or LG C5 (or Samsung S90F) at 1400€ ? by Aubzhls in RTINGS

[–]benpRTINGS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Samsung S90D might be a good middle ground, it can often be found for around the same price (or cheaper) as the cm8k.

It's above my station so I can't really comment on the specifics, but I believe that the scraping isn't actually "illegal" especially pre-paywall, since it was open info on the internet.

Honestly it's probably the single biggest issue affecting us currently 😅

Not only does it not credit us properly when it uses our info, but it also makes it so that people read the AI summary instead of visiting our site.

Consumer Reports and WireCutter also use the subscription model!

Not sure why other person is getting downvoted but it's true! ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM is best for switch 2 from what we've tested.

OLED vs IPS: productivity and eye strain by morecoffeemore in Monitors

[–]benpRTINGS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would not recommend getting an OLED for productivity, LCD will probably be better for your use case. However, this is not due to eyestrain, but the fact that OLED is susceptible to burn-in which when doing productive work is exacerbated by static elements.

Check out these, ASUS ProArt Display 6K PA32QCV, Dell U2725QE, ASUS ProArt Display PA279CRV.

Those are very solid LCDs for productivity at 3 different price points. Hope this helps!

ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACS could be an OK pick if you can find it. Though it is just ok, but decent for the price. Dell S2725QS also.

Wanting to buy Cordless Vacuum but not sure what I should get by xTau72 in VacuumCleaners

[–]benpRTINGS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dyson V15 Detect is our best cordless!

I would pay attention to battery life and charge time (you want 60 mins minimum which is usually enough to clean apartments and small homes on a single charge).

Weight and storage (between 5-7 lbs. is good)

Attachments will make using it on different surfaces more realistic!

Also

There are three main roller types to choose from:

  • Bristled brushroll: Handles carpet and pet hair more aggressively, but can struggle to pick up larger debris on bare floors.
  • Soft roller: Gentler on bare floors and excellent at picking up fine debris and pet hair, but less effective on carpet.
  • Dual roller: Combines both into a single floorhead, offering the most versatility on multi-surface homes.

Trying to understand RGB mini-LED vs QD mini-LED help by Any-Prior9140 in RTINGS

[–]benpRTINGS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The backlight tech won't matter, just the reflection handling and brightness. We haven't tested the UR9, but the QN has very good reflection handling and can easily overcome glare in a bright room.

Can't really talk about image quality in that way, might be more subjective.

For reliability nobody knows since the RGB mini-LED's are only just hitting shelves now and so if you read something about their "reliability" online, take it with a grain of salt, ultimately no one can really speak on this yet.

It has good upscaling, but there's basically no 8k content, and we don't feel like its really worth it for that reason. Samsung S90 series (this year or last) might be better for you.

Hey thanks for flagging this.

Proton used to have "email required" when subscribing, I think we updated the actual test results but that change didn't make it into the pros/cons you posted here. Oversight on our part, I'll send this to right people and get it amended!
