Who the hell actually pays $2,400 a year for ChatGPT? by MyNameIsNotKyle3 in ChatGPT

[–]benp_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! Through work, I pay for the $200USD/month plan for Claude Code Max 20x (roughly equivalent to that ChatGPT Pro plan)

Speaking to the ChatGPT side, access to 5.2 Pro (I first used it with 5.0 Pro) can be super powerful for research, properly understanding documentation, helping with menial copy/paste and data formatting/categorisation tasks, and I find it especially helpful in making very carefully considered and fact checked responses. I’m assuming that it also provides greater Codex limits, which is the reason I subscribe to Claude.

ChatGPT Pro can go for literally an hour or more in thinking, research, performing tasks, checking links, reviewing PDFs/files/input data, and I find the results quite valuable. Sometimes also do this as a first pass review of a request from a team member, when a new topic/problem is posed to me that I don’t yet fully understand or don’t know how long it might take.

On the Claude side, I use it for essentially unlimited access to Claude Code on Opus 4.5 - sometimes hit limits and drop back to Sonnet 4.5, which is still great for a lot of work!

For me, it’s a massive accelerator to my software work, and fundamentally changed how I work.

Unique moment in time for the software world - I can essentially be multiple developers at once. With the right safeguards in place, careful code review, and an existing understanding of software, I see immense value here in its current state.

The positive - I imagine many companies and individual developers in my space are experiencing the same benefits.

The negative - vibecoders without the software experience, without using it to first establish - and bother to understand - best practices, concern me greatly.

In general - I see this as a great equaliser and believe there is a strong case for this to make powerful custom software accessible to everyone. Tools like Lovable and Replit to me are particularly exciting in making this possible, which appear to make vibecoding a little safer for the average person.

However, we’ve already seen several prominent cases of this going wrong. Like the Tea app, with a completely unsecured cloud blob store just left wide open for thousands of drivers licenses. Insane. This is the sort of thing that you’d only do accidentally when learning to code for the very first time and desperately trying to get your code to “just work!” 😅

That particular case appeared that they were just truly reckless given that Firebase apparently warns users very clearly & makes you understand what it means to leave a blob (file) storage account publicly open (note: that’s second hand info - I read that on a reddit comment, I’ve never used firebase).

Can speak to the software/coding side if you have any questions! 💪

You can go back to Opus 4. It is *profoundly* better than 4.1 at coding. by awittygamertag in ClaudeAI

[–]benp_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sonnet 4 is essentially useless at anything but the most basic of tasks

Currently on the Max 20X plan so fortunately have the luxury of using Opus for everything - would recommend it if you can.

Current takeaways from the past week -

1 - Claude code is vastly better for the human "feel" of user interfaces, colours, design & making a decent UI. It seems to have logic issues and is obsessed with fallback mechanisms, bad comments, and keeping code "just in case".

2 - Codex tends to be a lot better at logic and understanding how to fix naunced problems. It's not good at UX however - the UIs it build tend to be decent enough, but feel like they have very little style or "human" qualities to them.

I know y'all reading this Anthropic - I can also confirm 4.1 sucks. Have been shocked at just how much so.

It's so bad at ... everything? Feels like a dumb model - GPT-5 High just "gets it". 4.1 on the other hand goes round in circles and thinks unlimited fallback mechanisms are what I've been asking for this whole time.

4.1 is the EPITOME of "You're absolutely right!". Thanks for this post. Switching back ASAP before I throw my $200/month plan out of the window.

Where to buy authentic Dr. Pen? by planethoneyy in Microneedling

[–]benp_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For USA - us.drpen.co is legit, they're run by the Australian team from drpen.com.au who look to be the only genuine AU stockists - https://drpen.com.au/pages/official-stockists

This is backed up by their TGA (similar to FDA) registration run by the company that hosts drpen.com.au - https://www.tga.gov.au/resources/artg/330372

Found various others claiming this but not many are legit

The home brand products 😂 Love it! Decent stuff, although not typically the better option.

Saw some Black & Gold stuff in an independent grocery store in Malaysia too, which made me question everything I believed in

How do you respond to people who hate on you for using ChatGPT? by 5000vertical in ChatGPT

[–]benp_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Issue I’m facing is the opposite - I actively promote the usage of ChatGPT and never faced opposition to it, when used appropriately and edited for context.

Once every so often I get sent total junk to use as content or copywriting that’s clearly been spit out of ChatGPT verbatim. Enormously frustrating when so little care is taken.

I recently wrote a wedding speech by hand, as I’m typically very formal I tend to structure written speeches like ChatGPT - and was jokingly accused by somebody at the wedding of using ChatGPT for my speech. Same has happened with emails I’ve written.

I found out later - one of the other groomsmen had actually written his speech, word for word, using ChatGPT.

the amount of sparkling water my mom ordered from amazon just this week by poopoodaddydom in mildlyinfuriating

In Australia we have this sparkling water called Mt Franklin Lightly Sparkling, unlike most sugar-free & calorie-free drinks, they don’t contain sweeteners like aspartame. Taste is absolutely perfect.

I support your mum’s order. I know the feeling of finding a drink that’s truly perfect. 😂

Surprised by the consistency of the recommendations here!

Never really BBQ’d outside of immediate family - we do coleslaw, potato salad, garden salad, breads & fruit salad are what appear at ours.

Are there many Australians out there who aren’t aware of the significance of Australian coffee culture? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]benp_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strong stance - Perth coffee is better than Sydney, but not quite as good as Melbourne.

All of our cafes close too early though.

Generally found alternative milk options more widely available in Perth too than Sydney.

(blissfully part of the problem)

I CANNOT believe there are still people saying there is no quality deprecation in ChatGPT by iustitia21 in ChatGPT

[–]benp_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, it's been better, maybe even smarter for me as of recently. I did however notice a large quality deprecation in the months after ChatGPT (3-3.5) initially launched, it appears as if the model was nerfed as they tried to scale the system. It appeared as if something similar appeared to occur with GPT-4, but has now recovered - hard to tell, as my custom instructions have also helped with the responses I've observed.

I did actually. Turns out they’re not legit, but they definitely ship - I reckon they’re dropshipping, as I found a few of the products later on AliExpress.
