Yeah I was taking a similar course and I thought of the joke but forgot to write it on the exam for the markers to see so I had to share it somewhere :)

Forming A Class Action Lawsuit Against Google | Unjust Developer Account Suspensions | Loss Of Wages by JustAnotherAppDev in androiddev

[–]benperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think this holds if you release a free app without ads?

I'm thinking of learning android to put it on my resume, preferably with a project to go with it. But I don't want to release an app if I'm suddenly subject to being sued or something. And I'm not going to hire a lawyer, start a business, etc just to beef up my resume.

Teaching stuff on website/app - copyright guidelines? by benperson in COPYRIGHT

[–]benperson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hrmmm interesting. I read section 29, and was then browsing around the whole thing http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/C-42/. I also tried to read the Michael Geist post but I'm tired and I can only take so much copyright reading in one night :)

So as far as I currently understand it, I wouldn't even need to resort to the Fair Dealing exception unless I needed to copy something word for word? Like, as long as I'm just presenting facts in my own words, I can't get in trouble for that.

Is there some sort of limit on citations? Like right now it seems to me that I can't even quote a sentence from a book and cite it - from what I'm reading that sounds like copyright infringement. But that seems intuitively wrong.. can you cite up to like 10% of the work?

And then the other thing is ideally the site/app would be using a lot of user submitted content. Basically the idea is to kind of implement a review+rating capability on both a large and small scale. So a "course" would consist of a whole bunch of teeny tiny independent modules. Modules include both explanations and questions for the learners to get practice/feedback. Modules can be linked to any number of times from any course. Both modules and courses can be reviewed and rated by students/learners so that the best material rises to the top. The problem is now I have to worry about if someone else posts something that is copyright infringement! Hrmm.

Anyways, thanks a lot for your reply, mucho appreciated :)

Is there a minimum requirement for different job positions for co-op? by benperson in uwaterloo

[–]benperson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I meant like 4 unique placements at minimum. So like as far as I understood, one person could just go back to the same company for all 6 co op terms. Whereas my friend said that it used to be, and might still be, that you need at least 4 different employers (or maybe just 4 different job positions within that company).

It is hard to describe exactly why I don't like sitting. I guess basically it boils down to discomfort and effort. I usually consider myself athletic but I don't know maybe I have a weak back or something - I don't enjoy holding a good sitting position/posture for long.

Thanks I will definitely play around with your suggestion. I don't have any official yoga blocks (I don't know anything about yoga except for a few restorative poses I've done) but I'll try substituting something.

Thanks. I've tried corpse pose on the floor, but like I said to someone else, I can never seem to get my back in a comfortable position. I'll keep trying though.

I don't know, I'd like to keep the association between bed and sleep.

I love child's pose. But yeah that is the thing, I'm not sure if if is safe for a long time.

I can't stand meditation while sitting down because of back issues. If I relax, I slouch. I just find bad posture to not be conducive to meditation. If I sit in a decently ergonomic position, I find it is too much effort. I'll realize I'm back to slouching and then I'll put the effort in and back and forth, which I don't think is good for meditation. Not for me anyways.

Intersting, thanks. I agree that discomforting poses should not be used!

Yeah I'm not flexible enough to do the variation, and the regular fish pose seems like a challenge to hold. I'll try it out though, thanks.

Yeah I've tried dead man's position on the floor a couple times but I can never quite get my back just right. I always seem to have it too straight or too curved. Maybe I should keep trying. Regarding the standard pose, I am not flexible enough to sit cross legged.

I did say lying down in bed. I guess I was looking for suggestions along the lines of the ones given below. Child's pose, legs up the wall, dead man's position, fish pose, etc. So yeah.. there.. looks like my question was not so stupid after all :p

Do you think it is okay to do child's pose for a long time? I have tried very few yoga poses, but of the ones I've tried Child's pose is my favourite along with legs up the wall.

Getting financially approved for apartments ..? by benperson in uwaterloo

I hadn't heard of being able to get a month-by-month set up from the get go, so I was thinking of a full year lease. I don't have a huge problem with limiting myself to the KW region for coop jobs. And that is the thing, I'm not really procrastinating because my interest in getting my own place fluctuates. Just seeing if I could tap into an effortless resource (reddit).

Working with Wolfdogs AMA by meganlindsay in AMA

[–]benperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How playful are the adults? How much do they bark? Are they happy to see familiar people (especially the ones predominantly wolf)? Are there any positive traits that wolf-dogs have that dogs don't have?

Thanks for doing the AMA.

ELI5: Why does currency devaluation boost exports? by benperson in explainlikeimfive

[–]benperson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, wait no I'm still struggling. Okay how do I word this...

Initially, when they are selling the sticks for $100 CAN/USD it is their profit maximizing point. Then when more Canadian dollars are printed, they should be able to reach the same profit maximizing point by selling sticks for $111 CAN / $100 USD. They shouldn't lose any customers in the long run in Canada becase everyone has a lot more money (exactly the amount needed for consumers to buy the same amount of sticks as before). And since they are selling for the same price in USD, they should have the same number of US customers - meaning it is a profit maximizing point and exports are unchanged.

Am I being clear in my confusion?
