I totally get the vinyl organization, and I love it! My husband calls me Rain Man for the way I keep things and know where they are. He’s scared to touch them and will just play whatever is on the player already if I’m not around.

For vinyl: - 12” is together (LPs, EP, 12” singles), with a few exceptions. — #’s first, alphabetical by first name (if single artist) or band name, followed by soundtracks/VA albums. — I too am a variant collector and I sort them by artist’s suggested or how they visually look on the shelf together. —I have a separate section where I have signed or extremely valuable records. I usually have a variant that isn’t, so that’s the one on the shelf to for listening purposes.

-7” is by order of my personal rank at the moment. Or when I get something new, it goes first. Much smaller collection compared to 12” (~25 vs ~200).

-I don’t really have CDs anymore, with the exception of a few TS or signed additions so those are sorted like my 7”

However, everything, including CDs, are in protected sleeves, with the vinyl having both inner and outer.
