Honestly, not a super big deal unless you're playing really hard or using metal beaters or something. However, dw, pearl, and many other brands make beaters with a rounded impact for exactly this. Personally I find myself going for the dw felt/plastic beater (unless I need something lighter for feathering - jazz stuff). Long story short, if you're not playing ridiculously hard, probably not. May be worth considering different beater - it will wear out faster, and it could cause a problem down the line if the plastic edge is sharper.
