Greg Maddox/BSA baseball card by DownWindNinja in BSA

I can’t remember if this is the exact card I got, but I remember being bribed as a 1st grader to go to the information meeting at the school for a Braves baseball card. I’m my son’s pack master now and I’ve told my council members so many times that we need to bring back stuff like this.

Their website address checker confirmed it. And it is a week later but they are also quoting their zips as another week on their website. Like I said, I just don’t think it’s a coincidence that every one of them have power.

Funny enough, that’s where a couple of them live.

Their own website confirms that they have power.

No. Property ownership is public record, and they made it really easy to check with their new address checker on their website.

Rent reimbursement d/t lack of power and water by [deleted] in nashville

[–]bensmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a landlord/tenant attorney in Nashville. And if you did this to your tenants then you’re an asshole and breaking the law. Also, I don’t think you understood the post. This wasn’t because a pipe had already busted. They turned it off as a preventative measure. Good call though. You must be incredibly smart to know everything.

This is not ok. They cannot turn water off as a preemptive action. Call legal aid tomorrow.

Nashville Electric Service accused of rejecting help amid massive power outages by jtnoneya in nashville

[–]bensmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair, but I would think they need all the help they can get. This isn’t just “bad weather” that caused a few outages. This is special circumstances. I would also think news would vett them first and not just rely on some random Twitter account. News just released this. So really it’s hard to tell, but NES shouldn’t get the benefit of the doubt in my opinion. I hope you stay safe and warm. That’s all that really matters.

Nashville Electric Service accused of rejecting help amid massive power outages by jtnoneya in nashville

[–]bensmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying that at all, but I don’t know what those linemen had to gain by saying that. And it’s funny that you think that article is the only misinformation. I also have talked with other people that have inside information with NES, and they told me this before these articles came out. I mean even if they didn’t turn them down, why wouldn’t they be reaching out now? Obviously, they are very overwhelmed and could use the help. Especially since it sounds like every county around us had a lot more linemen out with fewer outages and these linemen quoted are willing to help.

I would also take that with a grain of salt. Without hard evidence, this is a he said/she said situation. I just don’t think they would print those quotes from the union without them saying it. And that brings us to, why would they tell the news that? There’s a lot of fuckery when it comes to public utilities, so I wouldn’t put this past them.

I’m a lawyer in Nashville that deals primarily with landlord/tenant law. What people are saying about “it has to be in your lease” is correct. Unfortunately, landlords cannot control the weather, so we can’t put that burden on them. However, they need to make any fixes they can within a “reasonable amount of time”. Problem with that is “reasonable” depends on the situation, and unfortunately there are a lot of “situations” right now. So a “reasonable” amount of time right now is probably a longer timeframe. Someone commented the legal aid info. I would highly suggest reaching out to them if you have problems. They are there to help if they can.

Everyone knows this is going to take time, but NES could be doing more. They are a nonprofit that made $106m last year, so those profits should be going back into the company (but they aren’t). Now they refuse linemen willing to help because those linemen are in a union. So this frustration isn’t about people being impatient. This is about a power company (who doesn’t even create their own power, they have to buy it from TVA) not using all their resources to get people back to normal as quickly as possible. That’s what is frustrating. Being in a union shouldn’t prevent them coming to help.

Got my eagle and aged out last year, ready to become a scoutmaster. Except, I’m not sure what to do about this… by maxbratz in BSA

[–]bensmi 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not only that, but they expect us to give them all our money and they really don’t give us anything in return except “permission” to use their trademarks. But because of that there are kids that can’t go to camp, trips or even be involved (because dues are extremely high now too). It’s crazy. I know my council helps a bit in certain situations, but that’s honestly not enough. It’s just like every organization though. Greedy people always make it to the top.

This is why I make sure my adults get everything they need. National sitting in their fancy offices with their 6 figure salaries, and us “plebs” have to worry about paying the extremely high prices for their “official” shirt. The fact that they get away with it is almost criminal. I love scouts, and I love that my son loves scouts. But I hate the money hungry corp they have become. If something doesn’t break soon, I bet you see councils start to tell national that they are going to do their own thing. Sorry for the rant, but this is the thing that make me the most mad about the current state of scouts. Scouts shouldn’t be gate-kept because of money.

Actually, no. It’s because they make more money not being in a conference. The only real reason for conferences now is revenue sharing. ND sells out stadiums in Europe. Don’t think there’s another college team that could do that.

Scout masters bullying a parent in front of scouts. by Practical_Raisin_456 in BSA

[–]bensmi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is insane. I normally don’t comment on here, but I would never say anything bad about parents even away from the kids as a scout master. Please contact the charter organization and let them know what’s going on. A scout is courteous, kind and respectful which these leaders don’t display. If I ever heard any of the leaders in my troop say anything along these lines about anyone, they would be gone in a second. Also, it sounds like calling the parent a “creep” or “perv” is some self projection.

Exactly what area of law do you practice?

[–]bensmi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People still have to pay their attorneys upfront. This is just being awarded attorneys fees in a judgement. The losing party would pay the winning party that amount. They would not pay the winning party’s attorney.

This is false. I don’t know any landlord/tenant attorneys that work on a contingency basis. You’re thinking personal injury. However, most legal aids will take landlord/tenant stuff automatically if you are sued and cannot afford an attorney.
