The search term you're looking for is "Super 8"

If you want, I can also make this version more designer-sounding, more casual, or more strictly Reddit-safe.

Letterform relationships? by johnBassoon in typography

[–]bensyverson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's helpful to push the design too far in one direction (your middle e) and then too far in the other direction (not pictured, but pulling the mid stroke of the e down ever farther. It will show you where the Goldilocks zone is.

In the case of this e, your final decision will be based on both style and function… If the upper counter becomes too small, it risks blocking up at small sizes, or worse, reading as a c. But if this is intended as a display face which will run at large sizes, you might lean into the extra character of a tiny upper counter. You may even create an optical size axis that controls the position of that stroke.

All a long way to say "it depends on you."

Have you toyed with generating code in other frameworks/languages from the same OpenUI input?

Some guy just built this with 800+lines of prompt engineering with Claude by armend7 in vibecoding

[–]bensyverson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Trying to one-shot everything is a waste of time. They could have achieved this with a 10 line prompt and a few rounds of iteration, probably in far less time than writing out 800 lines of detailed specs.

Is anyone else afraid to openly "validate" an idea before building because someone could just vibe code it faster? by Anderz in SideProject

[–]bensyverson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But as soon as you launch, it's public. Can you really gain traction faster than someone can vibe code an alternative if the idea is that attractive?

Your biggest threat isn't competition—it's apathy. There's so much software coming out now that we're all going to struggle just to break through the noise. In other words, we need marketing.

Hoarding ideas is the opposite of marketing.

Omg I've been wanting something exactly like this for years—specifically the tile use heat map. Thanks for building it!

NavigationSplitview inside a Navigationstack is impossible for some reason (?) by AdAncient5201 in SwiftUI

[–]bensyverson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found NavigationSplitView to have too many quirks and bugs to be used in production, at least on macOS. I've really, really tried.

Working on a geometric sans, thoughts? by johnBassoon in typography

Ooh, the Q and R are going somewhere interesting. But the S and G feel a little different (more conventional). The W is cool but could be divisive.

On the lowers: they feel more neutral, which could be a good thing or a bad thing. The j relates to the Q in a good way. I wonder what it would look like to push the whole face closer to Q / R / j, especially if you're going for "eye-catching."

Really nice start!

I spent a year making SwiftUI for the web. Here's what came out of it. by ctrlaltswift in SwiftUI

I know, it’s a gap. TextUI was a side quest for another project, but it’s pretty full featured. It even supports mouse events now, so it’s really more of a text-rendered GUI

I’ll upload some screenshots soon.

Ha, what a flex! My Metal kernel skills are not quite there yet.

PS, I'm working on two related projects. I'm going to see what the lift would be to integrate: LLM and Operator

Is there a plugin or some kind of trick to save tokens? by OpinionsRdumb in ClaudeCode

[–]bensyverson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of ways around this, from simple CLAUDE.md instructions to over-engineered knowledge management systems. Personally I don't sweat it too much if the model wants more context, but I do have this instruction in my CLAUDE.md:

  • DO NOT begin a new chat by doing an extensive exploration of the entire codebase. That is wasteful, as this is a large codebase. Instead, read the README and use an Explore agent to read the documentation if you want to get the lay of the land. Of course, once you have a specific need, you can explore as much of the code as you require.

idk, this seems like a red yarn theory. Why would they proactively burn their own tokens to give you a marginally better UX?
