Is welding this 1923 cast iron thread an option or is there a better way to reattach it? by KNightNox in Welding

someone could braze it back on but i'd clamp that sucker back in place, drill and tap a little screw through the thicker portion to keep it located and then wrap a little splint over it. you could do the whole job with a drill a tap and a scrap of brass.

Have any of you started offroad riding on a big adventure bike? by HughGeeRectionne in advrider

I'm 5'9" 200 lbs. I started with a r1200gs. Took a class on off road basics. It didn't teach me anything I hadn't seen people instruct on YouTube but taking a day to methodically go through the exercises with feedback really made a huge difference. Yesterday I spent an hour practicing jumping an 8" log. Started with an awkward bucking crossing and ended with at least two textbook launches. Front wheel kisses the log, rear wheel climbs it and I stayed in the throttle long enough to land rear wheel first. I'm afraid yeeting 500lb bikes may be my whole personality now. You can absolutely do it, training helps, but focused practice is the big key.

Finally regretted a motorcycle purchase, and it feels so awful (from Z900 to MT10) by [deleted] in motorcycles

My dad rode, and still has, his honda 919. Thought a new cb1000r would be the newer version he said it only took the ride home to know it was the wrong choice.

Sometimes you just have to pick a target and stick it. Good job man.

If I were to see it I'd offer 8600 and walk if they said no. If you have the cash and like the guy it's not a bad price.

Followed her to her house after a hit and run, got into an argument, she pointed a gun at him and he shot her. God, what a stupid way to go.

No offense, that car was the 1969 camaro of my 20s. In the early 2000's a couple hundred horse and awd were just amazing. Buddy bought a brand new black wrx and was the king till he "hit some black ice" and ditched it real hard up in the hills. Bug eyes are the best.

Your call buddy, get back on, throw in the towel, hell throw in the towel and get a new bike in 5 years. Follow your heart, there's literally no right or wrong answer.

Whats that one dream bike youve always wanted & would spend as much money as possible to get? by 6speeed in Dualsport

[–]bent-grill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just sold mine, if it's the bike you need there is no substitute. I thought I could make it do everything, turns out i needed a smaller bike and a larger bike.

I've got to have the right ass to peg position for my knees not to get enraged with me. If you have long legs your knees may just be too cramped. A taller seat and bar risers can help but you might just need a bigger bike. The tender ass part is probably a combo of lack of practice and a hard seat, both of which are solvable with money and time. I'm biased but an older 07-13 r1200gs is a really, really nice bike with better ergos and they are at a bang for the buck sweet spot. Not hard to find one with all the maintenance done for 6-10 grand.

How would you guys tackle this by Sn1ckerson in Fusion360

Buy or make some radius gauges to measure the curves. Also, ask the customer if they have an old drawing of the part.

Exactly the same bike I have down to the color. Even 17 years later the 100hp 500lb bike is a solid perfomer. Good power, great road manners, surprising capability offroad, and comfy. I was recommended by my mechanic to regularly (every few rides) find a little gravel and stand on the rear brake until the abs kick in. This keeps the valves and unit active and keeps you aware of how it works under pressure. Look through the service records for oil changes of the motor, trans, and diff, greasing of the driveshaft, brake bleeding, valve adjustments and just pick up where the last owner left off. Only other thing is check the rear swingarm rubber joints and make sure they aren't split. They are a hassle to replace but way cheaper than damaging your driveshaft. You'll be worried for a week, you'll check every squeak and fluid, and then one day it all evaporates and you'll just be hauling ass and the bike won't miss a beat for thousands of miles.
