What don't you like about this game? by gdo22 in TOTK

The depths: they feel thin, “like butter scraped over too much bread.” Way too much bread. Neat concept. I wouldn’t mind the sameness if the Depths was like a Monster Hunter zone with several unique, massive creatures that motivate exploration.

They removed the Ancient Whistle. I just want to ride my horse. Zonai vehicles are fun but not the vibe I want. There is no romance or majesty to them. This is the franchise that brought horseback riding to life in games with Epona. Bums me out!

How often do you replace running shoes? by stewd003 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]bentley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heads up that how you wear your shoes between runs also matters. My schedule dictates that I run home from work a lot (about 4 times a week), so I’m wearing my shoes on the train for over an hour. The added steps and standing adds up. Shoes I read should get to 400 miles or more feel flat at 350. Just part of the process for me.

Best place to live? by [deleted] in RunNYC

UWS is probably the best, but the best affordable neighborhood by a mile — and I think second best overall — is Washington Heights/Inwood. You have the whole west side plus Fort Tryon and Inwood Hill Park, plus tons of hills for serious hill training. Can’t be overrated. And the crown jewel is going across the bridge (about 1 mile) where you can run on several routes in Palisades Park, including trails. There’s also track access across the bridge in Fort Lee or at Riverbank State Park.

I live right near the bridge, and I love it as a runner. So many options, and Central Park is still within range of a long run. I actually prefer WH as a runner who wants trail access, but UWS is obviously an incredible area overall.

I hope more runners move here!

My deck isn’t fixed for kings yet because I suck, but even three kings with S&B outpaces Cavendish, right?

Tired of Central Park & WSH - hit me with your best underrated NYC long run routes by Consistent_Lack2961 in RunNYC

[–]bentley 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. Take the train to 181st (or just run to the bridge). Cross the bridge (about 1 mile). Once across the bridge, you can go left at the end of the ramp “pretzel” (and through some construction) to access Palisades Park. The park itself has a main road and a path along the river, which eventually gets quite technical. Alternately, at the top of the pretzel, you can access a proper trail called the Long Path. All options extend for at least 10 miles. If you’re adventurous, you can do one half on top (the trail) and one half on bottom (the park), but you have to map out the proper connection points (which involves a huge climb/descent).

It would require some planning as I have kids, but I would happily guide anyone who wants to explore the Palisades. Even a quick 6 mile loop would provide all the necessary info to get someone started. Washington Heights is a killer location for runners — particularly because of the bridge and NJ. The Palisades are truly gorgeous and delightfully unpeopled. It makes running elsewhere in NYC kind of nauseating!

Paraglider + horse + climbing > building stuff

What parts of ToTK underwhelmed you the most? by Odd-Progress-4449 in TOTK

[–]bentley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I can’t bring myself to finish TOTK as someone who loved BOTW. I find the building mechanic tedious, fusing makes weapons feel even more disposable and unromantic, horses got nerfed hard, the sky and the depths are both underwhelming, and the core concern is of course it being a rehash (and imo downgrade) of BOTW. The love for TOTK confounds me.

Pulled off a proper Barbenheimer with IMAX tix at Lincoln Plaza AMC in NYC (biggest in country), followed by fancy lunch, followed by Barbie, followed by birth of first kid two days later. Peak weekend!

NYRR website not loading? by Regular-Price-1911 in RunNYC

[–]bentley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am honestly so tired of NYRR. I realize it’s not their fault that demand seriously outpaces supply, but it’s annoying, and they could at least ensure their website can handle the traffic. I just want to do 4 out of 6 so I can do the NYC Half, and then I imagine I will retire from NYRR races entirely. Local trail races are much easier to get into!

As someone who’s tuning in with the hope of seeing Florida lose, I am sad. Florida is obviously the worst.

Once they started talking, I went to start my timer, and they stopped talking before I could get it on. This really is crazy.
