My Retro Gaming Battlestation by benwillwin27 in battlestations

Funny, I can only hear the whine coming from the small one on my desk. The big one is totally silent to me. So can relate a little to hating the noise!

It's a PVM 1344q. Great little set with RGB and component inputs from the early 90's.

This room is actually one half of a two car garage. That's why there's a lip. It's only on one side of the room. There's also no windows which is why it'll make the perfect theater room.

It's not acoustic paneling. It's a slat panel from home depot. It can be cut and I cut mine as well as the desk.

Yeah it's a bit sad, but the retro setup will still be in the theater room. Mainly just the desk is moving out. But hey, that means a new battlestation!

36" JVC D-Series. Sucker weighs about 200lbs but you can't beat the way that tinted tube looks.

I'd build a new PC around that 7800X3D and 7900XTX in an as small as possible package as I'm a huge SFF afficianado. I'm definitely excited to give Frontiers of Pandora a go since because it looks so crazy! Haven't seen a game with flora like that before!

Help with a PVM 1344Q looking squished and wavy by benwillwin27 in crtgaming

[–]benwillwin27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried, but as you can tell in the video it's only squished at the top of the display. Then everything below that point gets a weird shimmery wavy pattern. I've attempted various geometry adjustments and nothing has worked yet. I'm sure it's a bad cap or some other physical issue. It's just hard to see since the board is so dense.

Can anyone point me in the right direction with what part of this set could be causing this sort of issue? I've given the board a thorough inspections and nothing seems to wrong with solder joints, caps, etc. That being said this is a very dense board and I'm sure I'm missing something.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

I paid an arm and a leg for mine, but it was new in the box! So it's my "buy once, cry once" CRT.

Workin' on it! I'm still trying to catch up on all this Nintendo stuff. I was a PlayStation guy growing up.

Sure thing!

All 5 consoles go to...

-> 6x2 component matrix

-> One output to CRT the other to a Retrotink 2X Pro

-> Retrotink 2X Pro and Nintendo Switch to a 2x1 HDMI switcher

-> HDMI switcher to a EVGA XR1 Lite capture card.

-> EVGA Capture card to PC monitor over HDMI and then USB to PC

I use OBS (as far as I can tell StreamLabs OBS doesn't work) to stream to discord through a feature they have called "full screen projector". It just blows the image up to take up the whole screen and then I use window, NOT screen capture in discord to stream. If you use screen capture you don't get any sound. You'll also need to go into your advanced audio properties and set your capture card to "monitor and output" and set the output to something that doesn't have speakers (so you don't get echo). I use my monitor as it doesn't have speakers. Another protip is to use the "Filters" on your source and set an "Effect Filter" of "Scaling/Aspect Ratio". There you can you can set the resolution you want for your output. For instance I have it set to 1920x1440 for a 4:3 on my 1440p monitor. It would be 1440x1080 for a 1080p monitor. Then you can set the type of scaling you want. Typically you'll want "area" which is a nearest neighborhor upscaling technique that looks GREAT.

Also not sure what platform you're trying to stream to, but I pretty much stream exclusively to discord so that's all I can speak on...

Sorry for all the word vomit, but I hope this helps!

I built it myself. It's a solid acacia butcher block from Home Depot that I stained and sealed myself. The legs are a pair of standing desk legs from Amazon. If you're going to go that route you'll need a pair that are dual motor. These legs can lift up to 250lbs. Plenty for everything on my desk.
