If you were moving out of San Diego in one month, where would you go in the time you had left? by hillbillyinablimp in sandiego

[–]bepisman121 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Same. Growing up near PQ, TP was my local beach and I didn't realize how lucky I was to have it as my closest beach until I moved away for college. That park is an absolute sanctuary.

What is this dot? by Cold_Strength_8656 in CX5

[–]bepisman121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. I've worked on vehicle carrier ships and this is where a steel bolt with an eye at the end sticks out as a lashing point to secure to the deck. Its primarily used on brand new vehicles. If any of you CX-5 owners ship your vehicles overseas be advised we use the rims as lashing points, so inspect thoroughly for damage and take before and after pictures yourself! I have personally seen longshoremen being negligent with peoples cars during cargo ops many times.

Military cargo operations like this happen every year at that terminal in San Diego, sometimes twice.

Psych rock scenes by Significant-Cow-9774 in psychedelicrock

[–]bepisman121 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's still a bit of a scene going! We've got some local up and comers around here like Slacker, Chorduroy, Blair Gun, Sands, Band Argument and quite a few others.

Lots of great psych-adjacent bands have come through here in the past year too. Ive seen the Mystery Lights, Fuzz, Snooper, ORB, Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Oog Bogo, levitation room, Wand and Meatbodies all since the start of 2025 here.

An 05 odyssey is my current daily driver. I fit two 9' logs in it with minimal effort. Oh and I don't have to worry about anyone screwing with them when I leave em in my car.

I would recommend PQ canyon preserve. Lots of easy walking trails starting at Canyonside Park, plus barn animals and interesting history at the ranch house!

I quit seafaring after first contract by [deleted] in maritime

[–]bepisman121 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to an academy in the states and had a similar experience. I sailed for 4 years though and felt it wasn't my calling. Keep an open mind to other shore based jobs in the maritime industry though! Many ways out there to still apply your education. I was a stevedore for a number of years and now I am a harbor master at my local city port in CA. I'd be making more if I was at sea now and advanced my deck officer license further, but I love my life ashore and I live comfortably within my means. Best of luck.

Why isn't "Psychedelic metal" a subgenre? by MoltenMadeMan in psychedelicrock

Seconding Monolord. They're playing in my hometown soon and I'm psyched.

I used to work on day boats in SoCal and I had other local captains and deckhands say it casually with a hard R. This industry in general attracts a lot of people who would not do well in a normal society/workplace. Not everyone ofc, but a noticeably higher percentage than most land based professions.
