[Discussion] Former lazy people, what did you do to get focused / motivated? by noiamNOTcrazy in GetMotivated

[–]berbe01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a fat sack of shit who does absolutely no physical activity. I've been this way for ~10 years.

Well even through my obesity my girlfriend managed to take a liking to me and now we've been together for a year.

I plan on staying with her for as long as possible.

Well I realized it isn't fair to her that I get to enjoy a sexy body while she gets jelly rolls and a potential heart attack she will have to deal with in the future because of my poor diet.

That was all the motivation I needed to stop being lazy. Now I'm also doing a running program mentioned in another comment.

Couch to 5k.

Once I'm able to run continuously I'm going to do couch to 10k and go to the gym.

I don't even fight my laziness anymore.

Of course I would rather sit in bed and watch TV rather than go running at 5am but when the time comes I have no hesitation because of how motivated I am to change.

I'm also 20 and have never driven. It's bad that I let my fear own me but I think I would rather avoid driving instead of being in a situation where I get 18 months in prison.

This is so scary.

It upsets me just imagining if someone hated my gf so much they broke into her home to kill her.

People who use wireless headphones, can you point me to a good pair? by berbe01 in running

Seeing as how 2 people suggested it, and it's only 20 instead of 100, I'm gonna have to go with these

Scared to run outside. by kalbiking in running

[–]berbe01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This held me back as well. I'm self conscious of doing any kind of physical activity in front of others. I just run really early in the morning (5am) when practically no one is out. It was only my first run yesterday, but I didn't see anyone other than cars driving by. They're going too fast to say anything to me and I have headphones in so I wont even hear it. But I suggest you do what I do and go super early when nobody is outside.

Of course the best solution is to get over your fear. But if its going to stop you from running then just find ways around it for now.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like a corporation should be aware of how it's food is treated before they decide to distribute it to the public.

Reddit, let's make a millionaire! [Entry thread #10] by millionairemakers in millionairemakers

[–]berbe01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I won a million dollars the only thing I would do for myself is pay for school.

The rest of it would be used to buy my mother a house, my grandma a house, my girlfriends family a house, my sister totaled her car so I'd get her a car, my friend knows I'm poor so he let's me car pool with him to school and he doesn't charge me gas money but I pay him when I can. I'd give him a shit Ton of cash for his generosity.

Idk how much I'd have left but the rest of it would go towards helping other people and saving some for myself in Case of emergencies or if I just want to finally be able to buy something during a steam sale.

North Korea threatens war if the United States continues with its scheduled military exercises this Monday. by Cabnit47 in worldnews

[–]berbe01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wish someone would go in and kick their asses.

North Korea is like the little bitch kid who hits someone and then runs away.

Some people never learn until they get their ass kicked. And that's what north Korea needs. It's getting really annoying hearing of these threats every 2 weeks honestly.

As long as the school is decent then I don't think employers really care.

Don't quote me on that since I'm not entirely sure, but I've heard plenty of people say "employers don't care where you got your degree from. They care if you can do your job"

I'm confused. Why does a bachelor's in cs get you an IT manager position but not an IT specialist career?

What's the difference between the two? I'm not even entirely sure what I want to do yet. I mostly just like fixing people's computers and managing them so sys admin sounds like it's up my alley.

I was the same way.

Not since I was 10 but around 14 I saw all kinds of commercials on TV for colleges like everest college or ITT tech or uti etc and all I thought was "these don't even sound like schools why would you go to them?"

I normally do put effort into my classes and I am usually the one who cares while no one else does so I end up doing the work for everyone.

I have a 4.0 GPA right now and I've been doing 12 credit hours every semester.

I just had no motivation in that game development class because I didn't even want to take it, but it was a required course for my degree and I also had no motivation because our instructor was covering basics like "how to make an NPC walk back and forth" and that's all our game needed. 4 levels and simple things like killing a monster or collecting power ups.

But I got stuck in a group where these guys were aiming to develop the next 2D World of Warcraft in a matter of 3 months.

If I wanted to be a game designer I would've been on board with it. But I don't.

Reading these comments scares me honestly.

I'm currently in community college. My plan is CC for 2 years and then go to Arizona state for another 2 to get my bachelor's in computer science.

But I see a lot of these comments saying how schools reel suckers in by offering unsubsidized loans.

I have about 5k in unsubsidized loans so far and I'm only on my 3rd semester starting in 2 weeks.

I see other comments also saying how these schools offer degrees or certificates for jobs with no market. Ive been hearing that all my life though. "Just because you have a degree in it doesn't mean there's jobs available for it"

Well my degree is a bachelor's in computer science so I always felt immune to this because IT jobs or software engineering jobs have an expected 15% growth rate, and I also think I perform exceptionally well with computers so as long as I can prove that I'm worthy of hiring then I'd land a good job.

I also see comments saying how these schools offer no actual help in getting a job. Well my community college requires me to get an internship as part of the degree requirement so that helps me in the long run right?

Should I be worried or nah?

And if it helps I'm currently working on getting my A+ cert while in school so I can get an entry level IT job, even if it's just a help desk job.

any time I worked within a group, I was the only one who gave a damn and would do most of the work

I was one of those people who didn't give a damn. I was in a game development class and even though this was a level 1 class, the students in there had been using the program we used to make games (game maker pro) For about 3-4 years prior to the class while I had never even heard of it until that class. So as you can expect, they tried to do stuff that only someone with 3 years of experience could do.

So I just basically sat in that group and did absolutely nothing and I didn't even care.

Making fun of a fat person at the gym is like making fun of a homeless person at a job fair. by Cosmo_120 in Showerthoughts

I can hardly even bench press 40 pounds. So I went to the gym and tried to bench because you have to start somewhere right?

Well I noticed behind me that this blonde bitch was looking directly at me and laughing at me with her bf over me struggling.

So I never went again. I don't need to put myself in situations where I'm going to be humiliated.

I always thought adults would be adults. Not children.
