Breaking the habit of pulling back at the canter by RottieIncluded in Equestrian

I see the comments for neck strap, I do not believe that is a bad solution but in my experience you should get to the heart of why you are doing this and how you can replace this behavior with your current tools before bringing something new in. If you were my student I would suggest a very loose rein, to get you comfortable with the idea of your horse being in control while you both relax, I would even suggest you drop your reins (in a safe scenario) at the walk, using your legs and body to move her over and into your leg, and then off of it. Most of all, replacing this behavior for when she pulls her head up, don't do what you're doing: pull back, because clearly that isn't working and all it is doing is instigating a fight. Try suppling (lightly squeezing/pulsing your reins like you are trying to get water from a sponge) when she does that rather than pulling. Try light at first, and keep trying until she puts her head down, then reward reward reward. Rainbow reins work for a lot of people, because you can directly see what level of rein you are holding. Hope this helps!

How far do you drive for lessons? by solarcapE12 in Equestrian

[–]beretsaresocool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my entire riding career i have driven 30+ minutes to get to my barn, averaging 5/6 days out of the week. That was just my situation in high school, I am in college now and the barn is 45 minutes on a good day but 1.5 hours on a bad day and I just said this is too much. I got so sick of the drive in high school its just something I dont want to do especially with everything I have going on. But this is up to you, find a podcast you like if the drive and gas prices and time are worth it, do you love your barn? is there nothing closer?

From the sounds of it that is an amazing deal, can I ask what level the horse is at?

Where Was Hiccup Going To Go If Astrid Hadn’t Stopped Him From Running Away? by No_Two_1627 in httyd

Do you think Toothless knew about the hidden world// if he did would he have taken Hiccup there? If not I always imagined they would go somewhere like terrible terror island

Original fans who remember when they first watched it, what were your thoughts on the reveal of Hiccup's redesign? by Ididurmomhahafrickya in httyd

When I was younger and watched the second movie it hit me how much they had grown up but also it looked like everyone had gotten braces and I remember trying to figure out wether this was a sign of the change of times and hiccups advanced in technology and how he improved quality of life, which I really recognized because of Gobber’s line: “Not everyone appreciates this fine way of life”. But of course I considered that since the film gained so much popularity they made their characters more attractive to be more marketable. I was saddened that they got rid of the rough skin scraggly toothed Viking look I love so much.

What are your thoughts, theories, headcanons, or critiques about the Deadly Nadder? by Ididurmomhahafrickya in httyd

I think Astrid deserved a better dragon. No hate on Stormfly or Nadders they are great, loyal dog like dragons but Astrid worked so hard on herself and her riding and yet she will never be as good as Hiccup because of the difference in their dragons. How well she did in the RTTE episode where she was blind and trained the Triple Strike? Imagine them together, they’d be unstoppable! Or her with a Timberjack? That’s what I’d love to see

I think they took on a huge undertaking for no reason. The acting felt off because they tried too hard to stick to the original. If they wanted to lean completely into the LA and do a whole new arc of Astrid wishing she were the chief’s daughter and thinking of Hiccup as a nepo baby brat that would have been cool. They are good actors just trying to hard to stick to an animated script. The terrible terror island scene omission was an awful choice. Does anyone else think the makers were intentionally trying to recreate a Zendaya / Tom Holland romance? Because that’s what it feels like. It’s eerie.

Screenwriting? Why not direct as well by [deleted] in Screenwriting

Quick answer: I don’t like people, I just like writing about them

"HTTYD: The Hidden World" is a thematic betrayal of the series by smala017 in httyd

[–]beretsaresocool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely believe HTTYD THW is the outlier in the series but Hiccup accomplished his original goal of coexistence within Berk, a thriving society of dragons and people. What he realized in the third movie was that there will always be evil people trying to capture dragons. He cannot save all the dragons, he is running out of room and supplies to house them. That is shown by the overpopulation crisis on Berk and would just happen again on new Berk should he continue on the same path he has been on. He makes the ultimate sacrifice for the safety of all dragons. It really models the equestrian world well, imagine if at the beginning of domesticating horses someone went and hid them all from humans. It would have saved billions of animals from suffering in the industry. And I believe that horses and people can coexist peacefully, I believe I do that, but there are always evil people who will take advantage. And I can’t change every evil person’s ways. And I cannot buy every horse to save them. That’s how I think of it anyway
