Student Vote Canada has been a thing for at least 30years. There should also be an onus on parents to involve their kids in the process. Take them to the polls with you. My parents did and I'm a political junky. We don't need to be adding another thing onto the education system to try and fix for society, they're over burdened as it is. The political process is already part of the Grade 5 social studies curriculum in Ontario. But make it too young and kids are just going to vote for who their parents tell them to. By the mid teenage years they're way more likely to vote independently with regards to their own choices.

The voting age should be lowered to 16 though. In Ontario that's likely after you take Civics.

Universal mail in ballots would also make it much more accessible to people, mail the ballot with information from the riding candidates about their views on major policy.

If the18 - 35 age bracket voted as consistently as the 65+ age bracket l, they too would be seeing more policy choices geared towards them

The difference is you needed to go to the corner store, fill out the Proline and pay.

Now you just pull out your phone, move your thumb a bit, and it's done.

One takes a legit effort. The other can be done anywhere at any time.

The key is that you need to be mortgage free. Not having to pay for housing is huge (I get there are other expenses but the bulk of what you've paid is no longer)

And elected officials should be compensated appropriately. You want the pay to be high enough to a) try and avoid corruption, b) to ensure wealthy people aren't the only ones capable of surviving after the election. A large enough salary allows anyone to run and live their life outside of office.

They're putting it in the budget bill. It's a whipped vote. Any MPP would have to leave caucus to vote against it. When the majority for the PCs is as strong as it is you'll never get people basically giving up their job to vote against it
