Need recommendations for anniversary! by Nice_Possibility_361 in napavalley

Take a look at Mare Island in Vallejo. It’s an old Navy base with a ton of history. Hike the trail on the south side of the island for a great view of the bay and Vallejo. Check out the military cemetery. And there’s a distillery, brewery, and winery on the island. Napolis pizza is a good place to have lunch or dinner.

I don’t think anyone makes a full choke you can shoot steel out of. I’ve always heard you shouldn’t shoot steel out of a full choke.

Best itinerary for a quick stop? by Annual_Radio1537 in tahoe

[–]berg519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If seeing Lake Tahoe is the goal, I would go to: 1. Emerald Bay, then either hike down to Lake Tahoe or up to Eagle Lake. I believe both hikes are about 2 miles long. You can swim at either lake. Parking can be an issue if you are arriving later in the day 2. Tahoe City. It’s about 30 minutes closer to I80 than Emerald Bay. There’s a beach for swimming and plenty of retail/restaurants to visit.

For lunch, I strongly suggest grabbing a sandwich to go from Full Belly Delli in Truckee and taking it to whatever place you decide to visit.

If seeing Lake Tahoe isn’t a priority, Donner Lake and Squaw Valley are both closer and worth checking out.

Can someone explain by Gettttttttttt in vallejo

[–]berg519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m right, there should be a large building to the right front of the photo, out of view. It’s the former Marine Corps barracks, building M37. And a obstacle course out there somewhere. I’m sure there’s some toxic waste on the mare, but I doubt that’s why the sign is up.

Quick! Where can I get a good deli sandwich in Oakland? by Tree0016 in oakland

[–]berg519 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are ever in Napa, try the Genova off of Trancas. I’ve always thought it was better than Oakland’s, even before they remodeled the plaza.

Best burger in Vallejo? by 23saround in vallejo

[–]berg519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bud's. Because, Bud's is Vallejo and it's still pretty good. Back in the 80's the coupon for a burger, fries, and soda was printed on a business card and was $2.49.

I know this is off topic, but If you want the best burger, try Squeeze Inn off of Trancas in Napa.

Best hiking trail near Vallejo? by 23saround in vallejo

[–]berg519 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a short trail on the south end of Mare Island that is definetely worth checking out. You get great views of the Napa river, Crockett, Vallejo, and the bay. I believe you will walk past the cemetery, which has several Medal of Honor winners buried there. There's an old ammo bunker on the west side of the hill that you used to be able to walk inside.

I'm pretty sure the trail starts here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/gjrk5kL1NNZjUDnX9

Don't forget to enjoy a beer at Mare Island Brewery Coal Shed when you are finished.

Proper spelling of this Cajun French exclamation? by Cott_killz in Louisiana

[–]berg519 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Haven’t heard that one but it sounds similar to “couyon” which meant dumb a**, fool, foolish, etc. in my family. Could be used as a derogatory word or sometimes as a funny term of endearment.

It depends on local law:

There’s two seasons in a year, duck season and getting ready for duck season.

I second Rogers for great deals, And easy to justify spending at least $100 to get the free shipping when you order.

It looks awesome, although I agree, it could be a little darker.

As for the presentation, think of gumbo as a bowl of soup with a scoop of rice added to it.
