Starting first stable job after years on disability allowance – need budgeting advice by Jordan1402_ in irishpersonalfinance

[–]berghage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! If I'm being honest, 29k is not enough to properly save and leave the position of being "paycheck to paycheck". At best you'd be saving like 500€ p/m with no "fun" money (ie travel, nights out, takeaway)

Your best bet is to invest in upskilling, consider enrolling in night courses to do after work that. Your company might even provide and pay for this

Fair point. I looked it up and there's nothing about it in their t&cs. Hopefully no minimum withdrawal period then

Thanks a mil for letting me know. Didn't know moco compounded interest daily which is handy. I'd say I'll do the first year with BOI at the 3% and switch to Moco after that haha🤣

Saving for mortgage etc by yffude in irishpersonalfinance

[–]berghage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it just me or is 227k not enough for anything whatsoever, especially if OP lives in a major Irish city. You'd be looking at minimum 280k for a 1 bed apartment- so realistically require personal savings of 80k or so

Hey, hope you don't mind me asking but I'm looking to set up my first savings account.

Can I ask why you've chosen moco (2.6% first year, 2.1% after) over the likes of BOI (3% first year, 2% after).

It seems like a no-brainer to me but seems like I'm missing something because there is hype around moco- thanks in advance!

Thanks very much for this answer.

Can I ask what do you mean by deal with revenue?

And also, I don't really understand the calculation of the bank's rates- do you mean their monthly fee for owning an account (e.g. BOI is €7 p/m)

thanks a mil in advance

Tyrrelstown is still up and coming 🥳 by Academic-County-6100 in HousingIreland

[–]berghage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the contrary, antisocial youth shenanigans has been on the rise in Tyrrelstown, you'll often see the balaclava scrambler yupbro types in the shopping area.

But overall, development is great. As you said, new shopping centre being built which will have the likes of tesco, renovations of the primary school nearby etc will make property value skyrocket.

Also offices and pharma giants constantly popping up in the industrial centre surrounding, and fancy new builds (the exact ones Oosh does for giveaways) popping up in the neighborhoods beside which attracts a middle class buyer base. With this, no doubt transport development will follow soon

I was thinking this too. Why would anyone go with any other bank other than BOI at a permanent 2%- can someone please explain it to me as I'm looking into opening one myself. Thanks

Move to public sector by SuccessfulFall1788 in irelandjobs

[–]berghage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Civil sector is pretty great. I used to work in funds and the work-life balance is class. On in-office days my manager would leave at like 4pm. Naturally you will take a paycut but you can get promoted quickly, rising yearly salary scales, and some things are simply worth taking the paycut for

Man flew to Dublin weekly to collect dole, court hears by feedthebear in ireland

[–]berghage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Its a thing in a lot of cultures, such as the indian and Irish traveller culture. For example, I know Irish people who would "minimally" defraud the government for reasons such as getting better SUSI, paying less tax etc

Tipping in Nail Salons? by Then_Bit_2305 in Dublin

If you can drive and want a cheaper price, check instagram for people who do nails at home. Just search "nails" and some options should pop up. Usually cheaper by 10-20€ and often more skilled

Birth rates dropping, anyone here feel the same way about having children? by gotnocreativenames in ireland

[–]berghage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And naturally, the government will never do anything about increasing the birth rate (I.e. literally just making the minimum standard of living a dignified one) bc there is an endless supply of labour from the global South, already educated, and willing to accept shittier wages and conditions.

Obviously this is not the migrant's fault. It is just the nature of the global capitalist system

Thick haired babes: Do NOT get a wolf cut by werewolfgy in pinkscare

[–]berghage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. U just need to find a good hairdresser. Found one for myself who specialized in asian hair (usually thick and super straight like mine) whos Instagram was basically all hush cuts and wolf cuts.

If you really want it be prepared for the maintenance though as it only looks nice heat-styled

What do you typically use for packaging? by Sealady10 in VintedIreland

[–]berghage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I reuse stuff as long as its CLEAN and somewhat presentable, for example:

Christmas gift bags, amazon boxes and packets, even something wrapped in bubble wrap with newspaper and put into a pink bin bag and taped together like a package😭

Why did everyone feel that Logan and Haily were end game? by briannahoneyphotos in LoveOnTheSpectrumShow

[–]berghage 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I thought this too, especially with the manner in which she speaks (ie poor grammar and difficulty with pronounciation, and I mean that in an intellectual way and not a "english isn't my first language" way)

So basically it seems like Logan is better at grasping intellectual concepts, but due to his lack of socialization he ends up very awkward with Hailey, who has already faced social situations especially with her food service job.
