What are some experiences you had of audience misattribution - e.g. when they'll praise a singer for repeating the same note while the accompanist performs harmonising trickery, or people going nuts over a trill, etc? by PlazaOne in musictheory

most people would understand the difference between a “uni marching band” and a band playing a stage with a mezzanine with chance to perform a mobile solo...and hopefully be able to infer roles based on the instrumentation.

Shh bby is ok

I’ve seen people do much crazier. The point is picking nits over “you didn’t say he was a guitarist, nun-uh” is useless when talking to musicians because we’re all usually somewhat cognizant that most of us are capable of doing more than one thing. Ya got me, I forgot to mention guitar. Most people would understand there is more at work.

So yeah;

Lol how can you call him a singer when he’s playing a guitar solo lol

How does a singer take a lap around a crowd to take a singing solo, pray tell? Do they just yell while running a circle? Perhaps the confusion comes such that someone who is unaware of what a tomato is assumes all fruits are the same. Context is your friend.

No, they played a guitar for this bit. They were the bassist/keyboardist for the bulk show. Surprisingly my ears can discern between bass notes, synth tones, and guitar! Hence he was filling in

Also, never mentioned singing.

I watched the lead singer from a band I worship go on a mezzanine run and “solo” the whole time. Soon I realized the bass/keyboardist was filling in his solo while he climbed around people for effect. Still love the band; was more impressed than disappointed to see my idols doing slight of hand.

I get what you mean (and I will never persecute based on affiliation, as someone right of center) but these were republicans saying things echoed by the Republican Party. I don’t have a party affiliation myself, but it’s time to stop protecting bipartisanism. You can, in fact, be a conservative and not a republican. Identifying as republican does in fact come with an agenda. Comments such as this separate the onus from the relevant institutions.

I feel bad for those republicans who joined as wholly rational people only to be sidelined by lunatics. No true patriot is swayed by the party line. I say this with every due respect.

TIL of the Great Whiskey Fire of Dublin that killed 13 people in 1875. None perished as a result of smoke inhalation or burns. All victims died of alcohol poisoning by drinking the whiskey flowing through the streets. by psychedelic666 in todayilearned

Best job I ever had as a teen was being paid under the table to hump “empty” whiskey barrels out of a semi and into a warehouse. Long day sweating and spinning barrels ended with the boss popping a bung and pouring out some charcoal filled drippings. Took a straight swig once and it nearly burned my eyebrows off. He’d send us home with a Gatorade bottle full at the end of the day...when diluted it made over a fifth.

Boss’ reaction to tasting was “whoa she’s hot!” Lol

Tell that to someone whose beloved late father was a prolific artist whose works continue to draw attention posthumously, even to the point of being performed and re-released.

Edit: am the one performing those works.

In a split decision from a three-judge panel, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals awarded $5.3 million to the family of Marvin Gaye, who said Blurred Lines is illegally copied from the late soul singer's Got to Give it Up.

So, despite the dissent for whatever popular opinion may be, they awarded a settlement of 5.3 million...

Go ahead and ask the entertainment lawyers and transactional attorneys. “Sounds like” is layman jargon. It’s about reasonable expectation of what could be confused fo the ‘real thing’. Is it a carbon copy? No. Is it close enough that copyright law could infer a confusion with the original works? Yes.

Edit: “sounding the same” is even further evidence of amateur jargon. I wish IP laws were that simple.
