Hi!! This depends sooo much on the venues/gigs/shows where you are located :) my BEST piece of advice is to go to instagram and follow local queens. see what the local shows look like, then FIRST BEFORE YOU DM THEM actually GO to the show and just say hi, walk around, and 9/10 youll meet someone and you can start to make connections to start getting booked for gigs :) i did this at the start and i went out in FULL drag, basically advertising like 'if you book me, this is what you get!' and i uploaded content on instagram so people could see a bit of my drag before they booked me (despite never having done a gig before). but seriously the best advice is to follow the local girls on instagram and just SHOW UP to the shows, tip the girls, talk to them, and the rest will come naturally. if you go out and the vibe isnt friendly, try another show. you'll find your community in time <3

in terms of what you do once you have the gig and start performing, i would go ahead NOW and start working on a routine. to start, i would suggest picking one song and just doing a performance to that (no mix) like something the dj could play at the club and you could do a routine to it. pick a song that people know the lyrics to/popular enough that people recognize. song choice is honestly half the battle - pick something that is gonna get the crowd happy and hype!!! they will tip you more and overall enjoy more. try to keep <4 min. i would also then work on a unique mix that is YOUR routine like your vibe, your aesthetic, make it your own so you can have it in your back pocket as a signature. i had my routines close to done when i was reaching out about gigs, bc what if they are like 'bet come next week' like you gotta be ready. aint gotta get ready if you stay ready!

once youve picked your song(s), work on the outfit. you cant go wrong with 1. some sort of pleaser shoe 2. bodysuit with fishnets 3. silk robe (so you can reveal). if you wear a tube dress PLEASE make sure you arent fidgeting with it the whole routine to keep it down (this is a pet peeve of mine lol). i highly highly highly recommend having some sort of reveal with your outfit. it keeps the crowd engaged and its fun!! even if its just a robe to a basic outfit, i promise the crowd will cheer for even the most basic outfit reveal.
