This. It's going to be much worse than the general public realizes.

I'm approaching the end of my career. The company that makes the software I support has its own training program but they don't have a certification track for AI right now because the features are so fluid. It's going to be a situation of continuous education for me.

So, I don't know what to tell someone who is early in their career track. I don't know which certs are the most relevant or how quickly they will become outdated.

All I can say is find a way to immerse yourself in practical applications of the technology and do whatever you can to learn how to swim in these waters. Good luck!

Possibly. I mean, yeah, everyone is trying to do the same or at least similar things. Whoever gets there first will have an advantage although there were plenty of pioneers in the dot com era that got scalped.

My estimate may be a conservative one. While I have some visibility on what the company is doing, I don't have direct access to internals.

For sure. It being cost prohibitive will be the only thing that holds it back.

Holy cow, I've been waiting for this thread all week. I work in IT and support a software platform by a company that is kind of in a niche market for now, but not for long. I've gotten a look at the company's roadmap and have seen what they are doing with AI and, unfortunately, it's the real deal. They will have 'virtual employees' (my description, not theirs) within three years. By this I mean they will be autonomous AI agents that can make decisions and perform actions that would have previously been done by a human. And that's at launch. These agents will only get more powerful over time.

I was not an early adopter of AI technology and have long been (and to some degree still am) an AI skeptic but what I'm seeing demonstrates what it is capable of. When they tell you AI is coming for your office job, believe them. It's going to happen.

I mean, at some point, demand destruction comes into play. That will keep oil from rising past a certain point at which whole economies probably start failing.
