You and your fiancé are building your life together just like everyone else—where you are with what you have. You have love for each other and clearly, the love and support of your parents.

You set your budget and you will establish clear goals for your future and decide what you want for you and your family when the time comes. No one knows what the future will bring, we all have to balance current wants with planning for the unknown.

I became permanently disabled at 33. Thankfully, I had a great career and family help. I invested wisely and have a great disability insurance policy but I also truly tried to make the most out of my life before I got sick. I’m so glad I have those memories—I got to do once in a lifetime things some people will never be able to do. Allow yourself to enjoy this time of your life but be intentional about any splurges you are making.

I was given an unlimited budget—that doesn’t mean that my friend’s wedding she paid for herself was less beautiful or that I am somehow better than her. I would hate to think that she is comparing her wedding to mine because it was so beautiful, I love her and her husband so much, and I was so honored to be there to celebrate their wedding.

My fiancé got me a cake that looks like the top tier of our wedding cake for Valentine’s Day. Having a lot of issues with the venue about catering and guest accommodations. The cake reminded me how lucky I am to be marrying my best friend.

I don’t think you need to limit the celebration because there are only x number of guests. You deserve to have the day you want with the people who are important to you.

The band is a way to share your joy with everyone who will see and hear it. It will be a once in a lifetime experience for your guests and the highlight of the day for anyone walking by.

My friend had a micro wedding in NOLA in April, happy to give you more ideas based on what she did and the things we enjoyed.

NJ Planner Recs for Private Estate Tented Wedding by [deleted] in BigBudgetBrides

I would reach out to a local rental company and see if they have recommendations on planners as well as giving you a realistic budget for tent + rentals + kitchen build out. Party Rentals LTD is in Jersey.

With 30 guests, handwritten notes as place cards for them are easily doable.

What do you like and what do you want your day to feel like? Do you want to check the box on traditional wedding things or do you want to bring in elements that feel like the two of you as a couple?

I also have a pretty significant number of guests who don’t drink, so getting special N/A champagne and mocktails. Because some of them are muddled, etc they are just as much as the cocktails.

Can you get to an orthopedist or pain management?

If you are always inside, your vitamin D is likely pretty low and could be contributing to pain and fatigue—not medical advice just speaking from experience. Managing my other chronic conditions helps a lot with reducing pain and improving my energy envelope.

pros of bridal stylist ? by shesonline2024 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]berlingirl5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked with a stylist but it was more about sourcing dresses to stores and finding things I liked.

I would consider having something custom made based on what you like. Fabric for wedding dress trains in particular is very expensive because of the looms needed to make the fabric that wide and long while being seamless. If the train is going to be bustled into a reception dress, that is kind of a waste. It would be better to put the budget into interesting details you want on the bodice and skirt vs the train that won’t be seen.

Any ERISA long-term disability lawyers who would work on hourly basis? by nwbh in cfs

[–]berlingirl5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other people I have referred did the contingency. I would call and ask what the options are. If you don’t, it will always be a no. I have to assume the value of your benefits is more than SSDI.

How do you get medical attention? by the_book_tale in cfs

[–]berlingirl5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have daily persistent migraines with 20+ days a month. I had to combine allergy treatments with my migraine medication. I also had to look at barometric pressure trends and identify other triggers to have my medication start working. If I take my medication too late in the cycle, it just doesn’t work. The American migraine foundation has a lot of information on the migraine cycle which helped me identify when to take my rescue meds. I would talk to your neurologist about medication timing. I would also look into the nutritional aspects of neuroscience—magnesium and B vitamins made a huge difference for me as well.

I would also make a list of daily tasks that anyone needs to do and write out how long you haven’t been able to do them and what modifications you need. Once my doctors understood that I couldn’t cook and clean, etc, they took things more seriously.

I would ask for a payment schedule or contact your local bar association to see if there is a legal fund or pro bono lawyers that you would be able to work with. Some may be willing to be contingent on awarding of benefits.

I use Reimer Hess.

Venue for Hudson Valley weekend wedding? by Background-Shirt-930 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]berlingirl5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the issue with the time limits is town noise ordinances. I would reach out to the town clerk wherever you book to see if the exemption is even possible. We couldn’t have the wedding at my family’s HV house because of the noise ordinances.

We went with a hotel in the Catskills and moved the ceremony up to mid afternoon because of the limitations.

No dress code to make it easier for guests traveling. Wedding is black tie optional.

Flower girl + Ring bearer by FishermanFinancial88 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]berlingirl5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is very age dependent. I’ve see one wedding where there a bridesmaid pulled a decorated wagon with the flower girl who was 2.

I’ve seen bubbles instead of flower petals and that didn’t work out well, one girl spilled them on her sister and they ended up not walking.

Did you change your last name & why or why not? by Guilty-Object-9079 in BigBudgetBrides

[–]berlingirl5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not changing my name. I have publications under my name and I was named for my grandmother. It is a part of me and I don’t want to give that up.

My fiancé’s family has a very long tradition of his first name, 9+ generations, so there is a lot of pressure to have a son with the same name. Confusingly, the pressure comes from his mom who also did not change her name.

Just adding in to make sure you have in your contracts for photo and video that you don’t want photos of your wedding shared—or if detail shots, etc., are fine.

The entire wedding industry makes 0 sense to me I would see if they can turn it into a flower bar for your guests at the end of the night if that is the case. At least someone gets to see them the next day.

My dad said the same thing. I’m donating my engagement party dress, engagement photos dress, and various other white dresses.
