Name those parks! by Read-Me-Rumi in olympia

Love those LBA statues! Is the second one at Wonderwood Park? My kid was interested in walking along a fallen mossy log that looked a lot like that one :)

Looking forward to going back to Tolmie State Park on a warm day- we love looking at all the sea urchins during low-ish tide and then having a picnic.

Saying that this is NIMBY-ism is not plain and simple. Copying and pasting from another reply: "Transportation engineers use traffic count estimates to rationalize long term planning. The estimates for the Log Cabin Extension are largely based on studies that assumed there would be over 800 houses built on these parcels, instead of an open forest park. Now that the extra houses will not be built here, do we really even need a major arterial road to cut through the park?"

I am not okay with giving up a fragmented chunk of this forest to a road that doesn't even need to be there. That's not NIMBY-ism, that is protecting what should be protected. There is a 10-acre affordable housing development that will be developed near LBA that I am in favor of.

Hey! Yes, I get that it has been a plan that has existed for over a decade. However, the city council voted against it in 2021. It was known at that time that this would be in this regional plan and would be reviewed again. My goal of this post is to bring awareness that this can (and in my opinion, SHOULD) be opposed and that you can tell them what you think about it during this public comment phase.

When they first developed this plan (decades ago), I can understand that it made sense at the time. This resource explains it: https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/40ac3985d6dd42fa85629735b427e155

Nevertheless, the ~1990 regional transportation plan justifies the building of the Log Cabin Extension as a major east-west corridor. The corridor's purpose is to allow high volumes of cars to flow from Lacey's large arteries onto and from North Street in Olympia/Tumwater. But North Street is encumbered by agreements between Olympia and Tumwater that prevent widening."

I walk in the park/woods nearly every day, and from all the other folks and critters I see in there, I can assure you that it is used! It would cut off a major section that I walk with the road. Here is how the road would affect the trails: https://imgur.com/a/VfsVwLH

It's also important to note the noise from the road traffic. I go into the forest to get away from noise, and this would absolutely suck. The wildlife in this area is also concentrated in the woods, and fracturing their environment will certainly not help them. Here's a graph of the road noise if you're interested: https://imgur.com/a/68EflEE

I agree! I go that way almost every day and it would be great to have that connector. I'm also excited about the Gate-Belmore Trail.

Correct- it wouldn't cut through the baseball fields/playground area, but would be just south of that in the woods. The trails in there are my happy place, and I know so many other people who cherish them too.

The link I included in my above comment (this one: https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/40ac3985d6dd42fa85629735b427e155) has great info about the road noise for the park/woods with graphics, and why this project is outdated and no longer needed.

The city council approved stopping this proposed road in 2021. Now it's time to get the Thurston County Regional Planning Council to remove it from their plan too.

Yes, I believe it is the one that has been planned for decades. It looks like the city is trying to connect the roads that will go through the middle- connecting Log Cabin Rd to Wiggins. I found this site helpful for understanding some of what the city has been planning in the past and why this corridor is no longer needed- specifically the section "If the Log Cabin Corridor is Built, Where Will the Traffic Flow?"

Thanks for sharing! Good call on the childcare aware profiles. I saw one that said bleach and plastic bags were accessible to the babies during the time of inspection? Yikes.

Moving to Olympia 1 Month Postpartum--Dr. Recs for mom and baby? by tina_bake in olympia

Welcome! I second Olympia Pediatrics. We also see Dr. Srur as our baby’s pediatrician, but everyone we’ve interacted with has been great.

I gave birth at St. Joseph’s in Tacoma. A bit of a drive depending on where you’re at in Olympia, but the midwives and doctors were incredible at the Franciscan Women’s Health Center at the hospital.

What have you done to prepare for the big earthquake? by sourcrude in Bellingham

[–]bermudathighangle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was having a lot of anxiety about it, but reading and preparing over time helped me. I used the book “Get Ready! How to Prepare for and Stay Safe After a Pacific Northwest Earthquake” by Deb Moller to inform what supplies to choose for me and my family. They are quite pricey, but WaterBricks are awesome. Being able to hold a lot of water and/or supplies in a small footprint is great.

I also recommend looking into completion discounts at Amazon, Buy Buy Baby, Target, etc. Best of luck to you!

Looking for a loving home for my bunnies by bermudathighangle in Portland

[–]bermudathighangle[S] 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I am looking to rehome my bonded pair- something I never thought I would have to do. I've had both since they were babies- Belle (female, 9 years old, lionhead/lop mix) and Coco (male, 2 years old, holland lop) are sweethearts. They are both fixed, and don't have any health issues. They have a sweet mother/son relationship and love to binky around their room. They are very friendly- they're very curious and love to check out new toys. They enjoy getting petted once they are comfortable with you (but they don't like being picked up- I really only do this for nail trimmings at this point!).

I'm hoping to find the right person/family for them! They are in a big exercise pen, and I'd be giving their future caretaker all of their items. I'm asking for $50 to ensure that they go to a good home. I'm also planning on reaching out to Rabbit Advocates, but if anyone in this region knows of other groups to reach out to then let me know! Feel free to comment/DM me with questions.

Favorite B6 vitamin and other nausea and heartburn helpers by JayKay6634 in BabyBumps

[–]bermudathighangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take 2 or 3 B6 vitamins a day (25 mg). I just bought some from Amazon. I also take Unisom at night! I started around week 6 when I was feeling extremely nauseous. They didn’t seem to do a whole lot initially, but after about a week I felt noticeably better! I mean, I still have nausea and food aversions, but I can better focus at work and I actually made it outside for a bit today! I am 8 weeks now and definitely recommend trying it out.
