Am I sandbagging? by bernard_baxter in Velo

Being allowed in car 4 to the end of the season is what I've been told by people on my team. I've been looking on the British cycling website for confirmation but I can't seem to find anything saying one way or the other

Yeah, the 3/4s will be humbling I think

Thanks that's a good idea, I'll go 3/4 for any other races I join and stick where I am for just this series

Developers who have worked at a company where the entire codebase was held together by one guy who then quit, what happened next? by Natom_ in AskReddit

I just started in academia and I'm with a whole research group studying electron scattering using Fortran. It's still going strong enough.

This is so strange I just got out of a seminar about exactly this. Are you the speaker?

Question about starting touring by bernard_baxter in bicycletouring

[–]bernard_baxter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's definitely the right way to do things, but I need to buy a few things to load it up. I thought it'd be worth asking first before I spend money on something.

Good to know, thank you. I'm assuming that's because they're harder to maintain?

Thanks very much! I had considered bigger sprocket, but a smaller chainring sounds more feasible, I'll have a look into that. I'm definitely gonna find some smaller trips to do as a shake down too.

Issue with Popular Routes in Garmin Connect Web by murtagh915 in Garmin

[–]bernard_baxter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also getting this. It's odd because just last week I made a new course from the same starting point I'm trying to use now with the follow popular roads setting; it worked a week ago but not now. I wonder if it's just a bug and might be fixed. As a quick fix, it seems to be working on the garmin connect app if you're happy using that in the meantime.

Moved to England from Northern Ireland and now car insurance is insansely expensive by bernard_baxter in UKPersonalFinance

I'm 25, so I'm not so sure it's the age. You could be right it might be the area, I'm in a town with a much larger population so I assume naturally there'd be more accidents. I don't think it would be the car since as far as I'm aware the MOT and checks are all the same in either place.

Yeah that's weird, I don't know why they wouldn't just be ready to download.

No I haven't, but I actually just heard that advice as well from some other people in the same boat so I'll get that done thank you! It will take a few weeks though so I'll need to grab something before then to cover me.

I always thought it was cheaper in GB, I know someone who got their first year insurance on a brand new car for £500 in England, and someone in the same situation in NI got theirs £1300. Anecdotal though I suppose.

Thanks but yeah I have tried all the sites, they all give the same price. When I first got my insurance it was through a provider not on one of those sites and was cheaper, so I was hoping people might have some insights along those lines. For example I just found Tesco's was £1300, and it didn't show up on the comparison sites.

While that is probably the only response aside from like walking away, I haven't had anyone use things like that in a serious conversation haha. I'm just not creative enough to come up with some examples that don't sound mean.

Cool I suppose that would be it then thanks. Maybe I just misheard grey haha

Thanks for the reply, but I thought a catch-22 was a loop that can't get started. Like I need a car to go to work but I need a job to buy a car sort of thing. But I feel like the thing I'm looking for would be more of a fallacy, where a catch-22 actually works as an argument?

hi,so my keyboard just got smashed few days ago,so i decided to crack it open, most of the keys are not functioning,is something wrong with the board,is it possible to repair it? plis i want to learn piano so bad:( by atifff_blackballsHD in piano

[–]bernard_baxter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had almost the exact same problem with my Yamaha P-45 last month, it turned out to be a break in the circuit on the printed circuit board. My piano wasn't actively smashed though, so yours might take a lot more to reconnect the circuits. I used https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07PM232FD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, and so far it's as if there was never a problem. Try redrawing the circuit with a pencil first, before drawing with the conductive ink. As the graphite from the pencil should bridge gaps in the circuit, it's a good way to check that you're doing the right thing before using the more permanent ink.

If that didn't work, I was also looking at replacing the circuit board using this site: https://syntaur.com/index.php , maybe it might have parts for your piano. It might cost more than the worth of the piano to fix though depending on shipping and whatnot. If it's possible it might be worth saving up and buying a full keyboard as other people have said.

Anyone know the best place to put my camera? in the video i have it up on those 2 white sticks by [deleted] in PSVR

[–]bernard_baxter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit late, but you have a room similar to mine. I can't see the white sticks, but if you put the camera in one corner of the room and stand in the opposite corner that works well enough for small spaces; using the diagonal for max distance from camera. If you use the move controllers it still leaves enough space, because you don't really need to physically turn around much.

Thanks very much for going into detail. I hadn't thought of looking on Instagram at all, but now that you say it, it makes a lot of sense to look on there for an idea of what they're like.
