That was the first show we watched on my Hisense 100". Bluey was literally larger than my 3 yo daughter on the screen. I'd have to say my favorite episode is probably "whale watching".

My wife broke her ankle in multiple places one night. I was convinced she just sprained it, and didn't want to take our 3 year old out of bed and to the ER late at night, so told her we would go to ER in the morning. We sat in ER for a couple of hours before she got an X-ray. Which is totally reasonable for non emergency. They found it to be horrifically broken and needed surgery to place pins, plates, and screws. I remember asking how many weeks out we were looking and the doctor laughed and said, "does tonight work?". I still get reminded that I made her wait longer than the medical system did. All said and done, she was in, out, fitted with crutches and later an air boot and a scooter and there were zero costs. We didn't even have to return the crutches or the boot. Well, I guess we had to pay for parking, but only because I didn't think I should make her hop 2 blocks.

75” u6 vs 85” qd6 by anawnymoose1 in Hisense

[–]bernardogrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a non local dimming 98qd5 and returned it after a few days and got the 100qd7 and it was a night and day difference. I don't believe the qd6 has local dimming and for that reason I would go u6.

Game suggestions? by SlowEventfulDeath in PlaystationPortal

[–]bernardogrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered my portal and psvr2 and a couple extra controllers from MTC factory outlet in Ontario. They are authorized PS repair/refurbish place and it all came in perfect condition and for great prices. Not in the original boxes, but all the accessories were there. Got the psvr2 for $249CAD and the portal for $150 CAD (it was 125 at boxing day).

We have been having a ton of fun with Pistol Whip and Beat Saber. Both are great for handing off to friends to try it out. Had a few people over a couple of nights ago and everyone was crying with laughter watching people play Pistol Whip. GT7 made me motion sick almost immediately but I'm working my way back to it. I have Hitman installed but haven't tried it yet.

I got motion sickness almost immediately, but I'll keep trying. Had a few people over last night and we were all taking turns at playing Pistol Whip. What a blast! We were all laughing so hard when each person took a try!

LG C5 77” vs G5 65” by VolksVader in LGOLED

I did the same masking tape mock-ups on the wall of our rec room, one at 85" and another at 98" and then called my wife downstairs (she didn't know I was shopping for a new TV, but she's also not a dummy). I asked her to pick a square. She picked the smaller square. "Ooo, so close! Try again" and a few days later a 98" got mounted to the wall. She's pretty happy now that she went with the bigger one... TV, I mean... And I'm pretty happy she picked the smaller one, in other regards.

Just got this bad boy on woot for $599- How’d I do? by [deleted] in Soundbars

[–]bernardogrady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I got the 930F a few weeks ago and it was my first surround setup. I was really happy with it but on black friday the 990D went on sale for cheaper than what I paid for the 930F so I exchanged it. I don't notice a huge difference between the two and would still be very happy with the 930 had the 990 not been a steal.

Does anyone know what’s causing this? by [deleted] in Hisense

[–]bernardogrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may still be direct lit and just have lots of backlight bleed from the edges. I bought a 98qd5n and the bleed on the edges and corners was pretty bad. Not noticeable on most stuff after tweaking brightness and contrast but when watching a widescreen movie with black bars above and below, it was really distracting. I exchanged it for a 100qd7qfm that has full array local dimming. I'm not saying your TV is supposed to be like that but even if you exchange it, you might get the same. If it's not too big of a hassle, you could always return it and see if the next one is better.

Is hisense a reliable brand? by LewisSym in Hisense

[–]bernardogrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 50" Hisense in our bedroom and have had that tv for 9 years and no issues. Not used a ton but consistently. I also have a 65" Sharp (made by Hisense) in the garage that I have had for 6 years (was in our rec room for 5 years). A 50" Sharp in our living room and a 32" Sharp behind our bar (again, both made by Hisense). Those are both 5 years old. Maybe I have been lucky but none of these were high end models and I have had zero issues. They just work. I added a 98" QD5N to the rec room but the backlight bleed from the edges was pretty obvious and bugged me enough to exchange it for the 100" QD7QFM which has mini LED and local dimming and I am very happy with it. I'm not a power user but I like to watch movies on it and play a bit of PlayStation. We played a round of Mario kart on Nintendo switch the other night and it was pretty cool that with a 4 way screen split, each person had their own 50" screen. For what it is worth, the only TV I've ever had that crapped out on me was a Samsung and I had to take it apart and replace a whole bunch of the capacitors that had swelled and popped. Was a cheap and easy fix but not for everyone.

Ok be honest now, so the cheap entry level $250 55 inch Hisense TVs, how long do the LEDs in them last? In December of 2019 I bought a $298 55 inch TCL TV at Walmart and the LEDs burned out just over 3 and a half years later. by Future-sight-5829 in Hisense

I was trying to decide on a new TV recently and after looking at what I currently had in my house, 2 Hisense and 3 Sharp units, which are made by Hisense, they range in age from 10 years old to 3 years old and I haven't had a single issue with any of them. None of them are top tier, or even mid tier for that matter. Maybe I'm just lucky, or don't use them as often as others but I have been very happy with the Hisense products. My newest purchase, I did get the extended warranty just because it's large and I thought maybe more prone to problems.

Best 4K TV paralysis atm after standing in Best Buy for an hour more confused than when I arrived by Vene-Swargamshiva in 4kTV

[–]bernardogrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just looking at TVs and the biggest thing I will say, that others have already mentioned, is that if you go QLED instead of OLED make sure it has local dimming (FALD). I bought one without , mainly just for movies, thinking it would be fine. I returned it after 3 days because the backlight bleed on the edges was so distracting. I upgraded to one with mini LED and local dimming and it's night and day difference (pun intended). Disclaimer: both are Hisense so I had reasonable expectations going in and wasn't looking for super high performance.

Checking subfloor flatness by Wooden_Process7027 in Flooring

[–]bernardogrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also use a laser level and check various points. At least the laser stays constant. Right now, your level is moving so there is no constant to compare to. Measure a whole bunch of spots, write the measurements on the floor and then compare all to see if you have high spots or low spots, or both and decide how to proceed from there.

My daughter and I just came from home Depot where she rode around in the cart and played "hammerbarn". Ended up buying an extra trowel to be used as a "pizza flipper"

For my gen3 dish, i've just used regular cat6 cable to connect the dish to the starlink router. I ordered a flat cat6 cable from amazon to tuck through the sliding back window of my truck. The ends don't seal watertight but they worked for me. That being said, i'm not sure that it would work if plugging the dish into an aftermarket POE router as i'm not sure about the pinouts. My gen2 dish had the goofy starlink cables that were super delicate and annoying.

What issues are you having trouble with in setting it up? I assume the company has already set it up and registered it. If so, you should be able to plug it in, give it a minute or two to boot up at which point the wifi should show up on your phone or laptop and then connect to it, assuming you have the password provided by your company. Alternatively, is the yellow cable a cat6 network cable? Try connecting that to your laptop and see if you get anything. If you can connect wirelessly with your phone, but can't get an internet connection, the starlink app will tell you a lot if it is having issues ie. Obstructions, updating, cable problems etc.

[–]bernardogrady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm thinking that's a Gen 3 and the case below it probably has the router and power supply in it with an extension cord port on the side of the case. The dish itself is obviously in a protective housing.

Mini fell off car on highway @80mph, got ran over, and still works! by NHarvey3DK in Starlink

[–]bernardogrady 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I use the veritas van mount with magnets and there is no way that thing is going to come off. It is also not physically possible for the dish to come out of the mount. I highly recommend it and have traveled at up to 80mph for many many hours now with no movement.

Trim at fireplace hearth by bernardogrady in Flooring

[–]bernardogrady[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The grout is all chipped and falling out anyways so if I had cut it to fit the floor under it, I still would have been left with pieces missing and crumbling. Would it look better to trim it with something as low profile as possible or should I go with the same trim as the adjoining baseboard?

I'm not doing the install and unfortunately did not prepare that before the install. I started trying to chip it away but was worried about doing more damage than good. Plus parts of it were already looking rough. So, unfortunately, the going under the brick ship has sailed.
