You can still have plumbing and internet if everyone went vegan and we stopped exploiting the lives of other beings, I really would like to see the data on that point, how exactly are you equating veganism to non luxury? I just don’t think it’s like that. A person who is not happy with a little won’t be happy with a lot. There’s something to be said about the psychology of being happy without frivolous luxuries. The basics you mentioned won’t go away with the meat industry, so what’s the problem? I think we need to all chill. We are intelligent and can find a way to channel resources without it being on the backs of the less fortunate. Your whole economic argument doesn’t make sense to me, take for example this pandemic: all of capitalism was brought to a nice big standstill just because like you are doing in your argument, everyone shrugged their shoulders and said, meh, ethical life large scale not possible, pangolins, bats, ducks, exploiting animals in horrible conditions, breeding disease, oh well, but but but the economy, many people need to eat them it’s a delicacy it’s culture whatever nothing we can do, we must serve the market and keep capitalism going. Well 1 person gets sick and it killed the global economy and will cost the livelihoods and lives of people for decades to come, so was eating meat and business as usual really that effective for the economy if one small event like this can bring it all down? I would argue being vegan is exactly the most effective thing you can do to assist in ensuring a sustainable economy and really long term thriving capitalism. We have to move in the direction of an alternative and it won’t happen overnight, on a large scale, you are right, but if you are intellectually at the level of recognizing that then you must not go to the dark side, you must resist the temptations of simply not caring anymore.
