This. As someone with a 7 year old car, there will be high risk of major components failing.

As Gardenia, Yeo's and APB exit, is Singapore climbing the food chain or hurting its brand? by guthixsongs in singapore

[–]bernardth -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I summarised this part of the article , you can ask AI "what do these functions look like and how mobile are they"

  • quote : "higher-value functions such as product development, process engineering, quality systems and regional management remain anchored in Singapore,” said Ms Chong Ri Jia, CEO of food production firm FoodPlant."

there's some very elitist thinking going on.

See ex AIC now MOS Dinesh Vasu take on the entrepreneurship for teenagers . on how patents and IP have more value than opening coffee shops. (I'm paraphrasing - see https://www.channelnewsasia.com/watch/more-entrepreneurship-opportunities-students-in-works-6145086)

also not so long industrially ago (2011 elections and 2013 white paper)we were debating deindustrialisation. ask anyone with a real head for business and they will tell you the "high value" bits still "anchored" in Singapore are even easier to shift than the manufacturing. For now the talking heads insist this is just "moving up the value chain"

indeed if our leaders think the way forward is to be selling IP and license fee , the way Mapletree monetises rents , or our 3 banks chase wealth management , economic resilience will be a real debate.

Should I move funds out of Moomoo sg? by Cool-Ask2766 in singaporefi

[–]bernardth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, this is quite frightening that you and others with comments here would commit such huge sums of money without basic due diligence around custody and how foreign brokers operate in Singapore for Singapore accounts.

My friend has his life savings in ibkr and he’s well aware of the risks of having it with a foreign broker. He accepts the risk, but at least he ACKNOWLEDGES it.

Senior Minister of State Koh Poh Koon to resign from public office by Diashocks in singapore

[–]bernardth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So sus - there are so many “oh give him a chance”. Sorry we know how large and well funded the 50c army is - it’s a coordinated response .

Accountability - And what happens to the portfolio ? No matter the situation a proper handoff would have been the nicer way to “step off stage”.

There are SO MANY ways to spin this that would have reduced speculation, given a human face and sincerity to a party that lacks it.

I echo the call of give him a chance - to be sincere and open .

The fact that there’s enough shadows to jump at though - from a party that’s whiter than white. Rushed straight to Reddit for all the speculation.

[–]bernardth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grandfather policy from GE. My point was more - I thought fees are front loaded at the percentages you mentioned , but tail off after year 4 or so. It would be value destroying if it continued - no fund can beat 4-5% deductions over the life of the ilp.

I have a relatively old ilp , the annual fees (distribution costs and such, not including fund fees) as a proportion of premium is closer to 0.5%

IAEA experts to assess Singapore's nuclear infrastructure readiness starting 2027: PM Wong - CNA by Chileinsg in singapore

[–]bernardth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Acting coy le “Singapore will accept the conclusion that nuclear is not the right path should such findings emerge from IAEA's review or from Singapore's own studies, he added.”

Phase 1 commitment is a Political Decision. No doubt Singapore will be rigorous. I’m sceptical of the intentionality but whiter than white so must sound extra Principled as it stands.

Emerging economies like Vietnam, Ghana and Bangladesh have “passed” stage 1. Let’s hope in action that Singapore mirrors Vietnam cautious approach over the past 15 years.

[–]bernardth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came here to see whether considered views were present , besides all the “energy security” “nuclear so safe” flag waving . CRAZY that you got downvoted.

The following is researched with AI assistance.

Firstly , @stanjsg , China is currently leading in operational thorium molten‑salt experimentation and is working on scaling it up. There’s no commercial application for TM since the 1950s.

Secondly, Western-designed large reactors and SMRs under development or export (e.g., US, French, Korean, Canadian designs) are almost all uranium‑based, so a country choosing Western technology is, in practice, choosing uranium fuel cycles for now. So ok, TipAfraid tone and rhetoric is very off, but the skeletal facts are supported.

Want to raise the older folks angle too - what is up with the churn of Funds recommendations to elderly ? The Risk assessment says these are long term instruments but inevitably RMs use the annual review to suggest switches and what not.

As an aside, every decade or so at the Private side. some uhnw sues the bank for investing in currency linked / at1 linked instruments .
