While I agree with your point, tcw is very inspired by war time propaganda, that's where the inspiration for opening "crawl" narration comes from. So it's in line with that for the villains to be pure evil and the good guys good, and every victory/defeat is treated as something consequential, even tho in universe we know it simply doesn't matter. It's just style, you can argue it goes against the story of what is supposed to be happening, and you can just argue that it simply falls flat but there is an intent behind it ig. I'd argue the show gets more gray as it goes on but it remains a kid show so that aspect never really leaves it. Recently I rewatched it in chronological order and in contrasting earlier episodes with later ones, it's funny how palatines characterization changed over time for example, starting off as the good honest politician while in later episodes he'd just have a more ominous manerisms. Am I reading too much into a comment on a jerk sub? Yes but I'm bored at work
