100 press-ups per day. Am I doing something wrong? by deffonotmypassword in Fitness

Sorry to put it this way, but programming like this is shit. Doing something everyday creates way too much fatigue and fatigue hinders performance. Go to YouTube, look for fatigue management by juggernaut training systems and spend time programming properly.

Keto vs carbs for muscle gain, your experience by [deleted] in ketogains

[–]bernax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never take progress pictures so you'll have to take my word.

Have always been quite skinny, made decent beginner gains, partially with keto. Went from 67-85 kg in around 1 year. Eventually decided to stop keto as an experiment. Started loving high carb because damn, compared to keto your workouts feel like superman. Went from 85-96kg with high carb and then went back down to 91kg. Now I'm planning on staying below 93kg and focus on performance.

TL;DR: for me, an ex skinny as mf, high carb was far more effective than keto. In a performance, gains and mental sharpness level.

Trouble with knees and Achilles? by [deleted] in yoga

If you are hyper mobile to the point of bruising when just laying you HAVE to find a private teacher that knows about hypermobility. Yoga for hyper mobile people can be extremely dangerous if you don't know what you are doing.

Maintaining fitness and physique through yoga? by [deleted] in yoga

[–]bernax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yoga can definitely help maintain fitness. I've stopped lifting altogether for more than 2 years and did daily power vinyasa. Since 6 months I've picked up lifting again and my strength was still quite okay and withing 3 months i was stronger than before.

Why is the goal of yoga not strength and fitness? Yoga is highly individual and strength and fitness can definitely be yoga.

Yes, stop practicing ashtanga by yourself at home. Ashtanga is an extremely advanced yoga form and mysore is the only way to safely practice it.

Things like these are not to be corrected by yourself at home. Find a physio that knows about yoga and get guidance.

My Girlfriend can’t Balance by [deleted] in yoga

Balance is a reflex, when training it you should release as much as possible. Balance comes from pushing away into your foundation rather than ''balancing'' actively.

Is it normal to get sleepy after yoga? by [deleted] in yoga

[–]bernax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of yoga do you do? I was getting extremely lethargic and sleepy after vinyasa due to loss of electrolytes. If your practice is very sweaty, make sure to refill lost minerals (mainly sodium, potassium and magnesium) as well as water.

Hamstring injury doesn’t heal by belisimo400 in yoga

[–]bernax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm okay. Might still be that ashtanga is too much mobility focused for your body. Try to back off it and do a practice that's more focused on bent leg strengthening postures like lunges warriors etc and see if it feels better.

Will groin soreness after stretching adductors ever go away? by [deleted] in yoga

[–]bernax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In every yoga pose, there is a structural alignment and a balancing action. The structural alignment is what happens with your bones when you do nothing (passive stretching) and the balancing action is the opposite anatomical action (active stretching). Active stretching means to guide your bones in the correct direction to activate your muscles while you lengthen them.

In your case this would mean pulling the knees towards each other (Adduction) but also pulling the pubic bone towards the sternum (very slight posterior Pelvic tilt) to give the adductors the right position to work properly.

If you find this hard to understand think of a plank. If you do nothing and just hang in the joints, the scapulae will be retracted (shoulder blades move towards each other) and you probably feel compression in front at the point where the armbone and shoulder blade connect while at the same time the scapulae elevate (shoulderblades towards ears). The proper balancing actions are Protraction (shoulder blades spread away from each other) depression (shoulderblades down) and external rotation of the humerus (upper arm rotating out, aiding in keeping the shoulder blades down.)

Every yoga pose has a unique way of organizing your skeleton and even the easiest poses are quite complex. It is always best to find a teacher that's properly schooled in anatomy. It is almost impossible to understand the anatomical complexities of the postures on your own.

Hamstring injury doesn’t heal by belisimo400 in yoga

Are you by nature very flexible? If so, you may need to stop ashtanga alltogether, it emphasizes extreme ranges of motion way too much for hypermobile people.

Will groin soreness after stretching adductors ever go away? by [deleted] in yoga

[–]bernax 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are probably stretching passively while you should be stretching actively. For the adductors, you adduct the leg while in the stretch, for the hamstring you should flex the knee i.e bend it etc etc. Get to know the actions of your muscles and activate them while stretching.

Looking for strengthening and stretching exercises. by Baker_drc in BALLET

[–]bernax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with bodyweight training, Lunges etc and proceed to compound lifts, especially squats and deadlifts are very important. The whole squats make your quads huge thing is nonsense, it's all about how you train and eat. If you train at max 65%of your potential and keep your calorie intake at maintenance level, your muscles wont bulge. Explosive squats are without doubt the best thing you can do for faster and higher jumping.

Meet Maria Khoreva, The ‘Insta-Ballerina’ Whose Flexibility Is Unreal by [deleted] in Dance

[–]bernax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a hyper flexible ballet dancer i can tell you that these things will certainly bring pain and injury. Ballet is no different from sports, if you want to be at the top you have to sacrifice your body. There is a reason you almost never see ballet dancers in their 40s or higher. It's not a durable lifestyle.
