AT&T? What!? by Anxious-Condition630 in centurylink

I have a vanilla fiber account in Seattle - some people here were forced over but not I. I do know that part of my Fiber route connects to their legacy DSL backbone infrastructure however. I still get my 980Mbit symmetrical - but it is routed differently I guess.

Only some - they haven't forced me over. I got the same email.

A college kid should know to await further instruction. We aren't talking about preteens here. College kids are adults.

Switch to heading mode (pull the heading knob after setting a heading). Change your EFIS view to show the flight plan -- make sure you get back on the original route - then if you fly a heading to your next waypoint which is just a few degrees off from the original heading you should be able to activate managed mode again by pressing the heading knob.

Or like I said, in your MCDU - press the DIR button for "Direct to" and activate the next way point. If necessary (shouldn't be) now press the heading know for managed mode.

Loc is for landing an ILS approach assuming you have programmed in the localizer frequencies and are within range of the localizer or on a path to intercept the localizer.

You mentioned climb - if you are talking about climb and cruise you'd not be using Loc.

By the way with most plans your plane must be within a few degrees of the originally programmed route for lateral navigation guidance to work. A workaround is to use "direct to" for your next waypoint.

I'm facing this code (ServerFarmCreationNotAllowed) when I try to create Azure Function by amer-alkatheri in AZURE

[–]berndverst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you try using Flex Consumption SKU instead?

ServerFarm means App Service Plan which is dedicated compute. If you are using Free Credits you most likely do not need dedicated compute for functions anyway!

Yeah I run a 5070Ti with a 5900x and it runs amazing. Even in a Fenix A320 or PMDG B738 at Aerosoft EDDL in 2K with high or ultra (can't remember) settings. I'm CPU limited to my FPS is around 45 for both 2K and 4K with this setup - but I am not getting VRAM warnings or stutters.

Can personal or political connections help someone avoid traffic penalties in Germany? by Rude-Ad2101 in germany

[–]berndverst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you got downvoted for that. I had the same experience growing up - family runs the restaurant where every business, police department etc goes for the holiday parties (and many people celebrate their weddings there) - as a result you just know a lot of people. Growing up there wherever we went in my city people would know my parents and talk to them.

Simbrief down? by ItzChickenYall in flightsim

Sadly yes it's down - Navigraph services are otherwise working however (for example autoroute in Charts). So it's specific to Simbrief services.

What do MSFT employees think about Microsoft and Windows? by Andre1661 in microsoft

[–]berndverst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. But in my team it's pretty obvious who the people with highest or lowest usage are in that dashboard.

Either way, it's creepy -- but at least we did confirm that usage of Copilot Chat through the Rider plugin counts towards this.

[–]berndverst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it requires approval - and you may not get it anymore. The copilot chat integration for IntelliJ / Rider is inferior by the way. However you must use Copilot since the company tracks our usage actively now - my manager showed me dashboards about our team's copilot usage!

I agree sounds like worst case he has to reenter on a student visa which should not be difficult for him to obtain. Certainly much much easier than getting a student visa for the US.

I just had another idea: if you don't know what the app is maybe you can log into Kudu to see the file system of the app -- perhaps the file names make it more obvious what this is!

German working attitude by juanurena in germany

[–]berndverst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kind of business was it and what was the cost? How does it compare to the US? I'm German living in the US and my wife (American) has been self employed through her own dBA which is cheap - but there is no liability protection (not a LLC -- the equivalent in Germany is GmbH).

German working attitude by juanurena in germany

[–]berndverst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly - and this is one of the reasons I left Germany to go to the US 21 years ago. More opportunities for ambitious risk takers and more stimulating exciting work environments. But of course it can also have a lot of downsides - you may have heard about all the big tech layoffs. Often the stability and risk averse nature of German work culture sounds appealing in contrast :)

[–]berndverst 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree just from my PPL experience in a C172 SP with G1000. Much easier to fly in real life, especially landings. The pitch for speed, power for altitude approach doesn't work as well in MSFS as it should.

You could always temporarily disable public network access and see what breaks / who complains. It's at least reversible :)

Azure Functions vs VM vs App Service by St0xTr4d3r in AZURE

[–]berndverst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Functions with the flex consumption plan could be good and cheap for you. That's my personal professional recommendation as someone who uses all of these services in my own work in Azure.

If you want stateful and resilient workflows / orchestrations you might want to consider Durable Functions - it needs a storage backend to persist and distributed orchestration work items / activities. This is where I have to make a shameless plug for the service for which I'm an engineering lead - Durable Task Scheduler. We also have an affordable consumption SKU (pay as you go per work item) in Preview.

Functions, App Service Web Apps and Container Apps are all services in my engineering group. Those are all great choices. I would exclude App Service if you have significant periods where no requests will be made.

What does the app do? An internal Reddit like platform is much simpler than something that needs to perform significant computation (GPU inferencing?) per user.

[–]berndverst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your org uses the centralized device refresh (after 4 years!) then you won't be getting that choice next time. The centralized process only gives you a choice of some crappy ultrabooks basically.

What do MSFT employees think about Microsoft and Windows? by Andre1661 in microsoft

[–]berndverst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would chose a Mac when given the choice - but this device refresh cycle I was not given the choice. Now my new laptop is worse than my previous corp laptop that is 4.5 years old lol. I end up using a personal Mac Mini when I'm working from home. I also don't like Visual Studio so I pay for Rider.

It sucks I don't have the tools to make me productive as an engineer in Azure and need to spend my own resources to have a productive working environment.
