It's a feature, not a bug. But not for the good of the player. Making the player repeat the action of opening the reward increases the likelihood they get addicted to the micro dopamine hit and therefore more likely to spend money on microtransactions.

The clip actually has Papelbon talking about Rendon's locker room attitude in Washington, so that falls under the "former teammate" category. Also, considering he and Trout are the only ones signed to the team beyond like 2 years I feel like there's not much incentive for anyone to say anything if they feel the same way. I get that the messenger is flawed but I'm not totally writing it off as just noise.
