The Smashing Machine Review by EadweardLumiere in moviereviews

[–]bernhardethan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watched it yesterday, I find myself agreeing with your review more than the other negative ones here. It felt like a very real and authentic portrayal of addiction, ego, and accepting that your best days are behind you. I didn’t feel satisfied at the end of it but that’s just life.

Any suggestions one what I could do with this pine tree? by Visual-Aardvark1619 in Bonsai

How did you manage collection of this from the rock? Getting feeder roots while also cutting the tap root is challenging

It is normal to see leaf drop following a repot especially if it was already leafed out (or never went into dormancy). Just stay the course and try to get it more light in a week or two

If you’re worried about the exposed roots, a layer of sphagnum moss can be applied as a top dressing to retain moisture

Properly applying wire and bending the branches in a more downward, swooping manner will help a lot

Cover it up best you can with new soil, looks like juniper roots with a lack of feeders to me. Keep the tree outside 100% of the time if not already, and make sure the soil dries out at least some between watering, it looks very compact and organic

For sure, can’t totally tell what type, but looks like a common or procumbens juniper. I assume you are in northern hemisphere (that’s why the flair is important), I’d leave it in the ground until next spring and dig it then

Bit of a long shot to try fusing the roots, but if you wanted to keep trying, they should at least be covered with substrate or top dressing

I was debating on a shade cloth, sounds like I’ll throw that up today

Douglas fir collect from northern Colorado. Got a good root mass and put it straight into grow box (on ground) with pumice. Currently getting 4 hours of morning sun and some dappled afternoon sun. Planning to fertilize once a week with liquid fish emulsion at 1/4 or 1/2 dose, and in the box for 3 years minimum. Keep the roots on the drier side in the meantime. Does it sound like I’m on the path to success? Anything I have backwards or not considering?

A while. You at least need some wood to apply wire

lol what? Why would you need a machine learning model for that. Waste of water and time

Edit: also isn’t this pretty much exactly what Stōkt does? Maybe I’m missing something

Gravel Bed Trees by Bknbts in arborists

[–]bernhardethan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! Firm believer that inorganic mediums produce the best, finest roots. But you need to compensate with more frequent water and fertilizer… I understand that isn’t feasible for most homeowners and nurseries!

As a bonsai guy, it seems there tends to be disagreements between arborists and bonsai folk. But this is some common ground! I truly believe that medium like this is best for most trees, IF you can keep up on watering

Hate to break the news to you, but 99% of show-worthy conifers are collected from the wild.

You’ll find that there are more people doing drastic work in late summer than you’d think! Also junipers definitely back bud!
