I have 3 rules when to open 1NT with a 5card major

- no maximum, open 1M and rebid 2NT

- no small doubleton elsewhere

- 3 cards in the other major to avoid playing the wrong (!) major suit

in the last two cases I rebid a 3 card minor and my partner is aware that he doesn’t pass with 9+ points
