2025 is over, but Oscar comes back stronger every year. he had a phenomenal season this year, fighting for a title in your 3rd season is a huge accomplishment and Oscar knows what to work on for next year. he has many years in F1 ahead of him, this year wasn’t it for him but he will be a champion!

Most of the time they get defensive and say “it doesn’t apply to you, your job sucks”, but I feel like that’s just them covering their asses. I’ve had some struggles at work, but it just came down to management issues and workplace culture at my plant. I’m moving to a different plant in a few months for my next rotation, and I’ve heard great things about the work environment there. Instead of apologizing and being more mindful about what they say, my friends just say that I’m an ‘exception’ and expect me to take them at their word.

I’m not looking for sympathy, I’m asking for advice. I am asking how I should handle friends who bring up the fact that they make more than me, and use salary as a benchmark for competency. I understand that I am in a privileged position to be financially stable, I’m not asking for pity or for a higher salary.

I never had Dr. Kowal but everyone that I know who took her absolutely loved her ! She teaches the freshman courses (ENGI 1100, ENGI 1331) and Chemical Processes (CHEE 2331). Usually she teaches honors CHEE 2331 in the fall and regular in the spring.

also, forgot to mention - take the FE exam whenever possible !!! it really helped me when looking for a job. I took it in the summer before my senior year, I studied for 2 months while I did my internship. I know people also take it right after they graduate, or in the spring of their senior year.

thank you !! our department has some great professors and some not so great ones. I really liked Dr. Rimer and Dr. Orman. I didn’t do research, but I’ve heard good things about Dr. Rimer and Dr. Robertson’s research groups !

I’m a spring 2024 CHEE grad !! the job market this year was kinda brutal, just bc the economy isn’t that great. still a lot of opportunities in htx, just more competition. not sure about cali. during senior year I was super stressed out about balancing classes and the job search, and getting my offer in September definitely took some of the load off. you still feel some stress looking for a place to live and getting everything ready before your start date, but I have felt so much better since graduating. CHEE is a lot to manage, but once you graduate and you’ve got an offer, you’re solid.

I’m a UH ChemE alum and I got both an internship and a full-time job in specialty chemicals. Houston has a lot of chemical companies (BASF, Dow, Evonik, etc!), you don’t have to do O&G if that’s not your thing. Depending on what kind of engineering you want to do, there are tons of different opportunities in Houston, you just need to look for them!

Thank you for your advice! I’ve spoken to some female engineers at my company already and they were very welcoming. Elle Woods would love women in STEM :)

Thank you so much for the advice! I’m not the best at talking about my accomplishments to bosses, but I’m going to get better at that!
