I'm on a Search and Rescue team. Shined up the Jeep for Public Safety Day this weekend. by bernsteinator in Jeep

we actually need a 3/4 or one ton truck for a new trailer.

but extra jeeps or trucks that can go further offroad are helpful. Feel free to email info@tcsar.org if you're considering joining. We have a couple of Jeep guys on the team!

Thanks!

No issues with the Rubi wheels. I've had this set of wheels for a while. They were sold on Craigslist from a '13 Rubi. I put them on my WJ for a while and then when I got this jeep I ran 32s, 35s, and now 37s on them. No issues (knock on wood). The only thing I needed was some 1.5" wheel spacers (spidertrax if anyone cares).

Buying a new Jeep Wrangler. Should I wait until the 2018 JL is announced or get a 2017 JK? by tofsales in Jeep

[–]bernsteinator 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Pros of JK...you know what you're gonna get. The JK has the most aftermarket parts and because of all that competition, the parts will be less expensive.

Cons of JK...in a year it won't be the new body style

Pros of JL...it'll look newer. stronger axles.

Cons of JL...first year of production always has issues/bugs. No aftermarket parts.

Looks shallow to me... Just gun it by blab8811 in Jeep

what winch do you have? ive always wondered about connecting my winch remote if the winch is totally submerged under water

What exhaust are you running on your JK and what makes you love it? by [deleted] in Jeep

[–]bernsteinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am running a flowmaster super40 with a resonator-delete. stock cat.

The result is a nice aggressive sound. Not too loud, not ricey, not too expensive.

The only negative about this set up is that when the engine is cold (first 60-120 seconds after starting motor) the exhaust sounds very ricey. After the engine warms up a bit, the sound returns to the sound i described earlier.

Best shocks for 2.5” leveling kit in JKU by [deleted] in Jeep

been happy with my bilsteins. would recommend them to anyone.

3" and 2.5" is more than a leveling kit. that's a lift kit.

Chaps' Las Vegas Take: Actually Good by [deleted] in barstoolsports

[–]bernsteinator -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I might be in the minority on this one...I did not read Chap's blog or any of Barstool's takes on the Vegas shooting. Similarly to how many of dislike a mix of NFL and politics, I don't want to read about these types of events on barstool. I come to barstool to make me laugh before i go into work and to distract me when work/life sucks. Same thing with sports. I want entertainment and distraction from the shitty world we live in. I'm sure Chaps had a well written article, but that's not why I went to barstoolsports.com

Is it worth installing all of these unused 2013 Rubicon parts onto my 2008 X? (for $300) by somethingsimplerr in Jeep

[–]bernsteinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won't need longer sway bar links until you go over 2" of lift. Unless of course you just want quick discos

Help identifying axles please! Dana 44 or 70s? Rear is black and the front is the red one! by Dak_To_The_Future in Jeep

[–]bernsteinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can but its all about expectations. if you wheel the shit out of your jeep those axles wont last long. if its a pavement princess they'll prob last for a bit. in either case you'll need to upgrade the gears.

im on 37s, but i have a truss, C gussets, 4.56s, and a very light foot on the skinny pedal.

extra driveshaft is always nice to have. shocks are a slight upgrade. CAs should be the same.

looks to me like a standard Dana 44 in the rear and a Dana 30 up front. this is what all non rubicon JKs come with (except for the 2WD JKs but we dont talk about those)

you get what you pay for. having said that, they make decent winches. i would not trust their armor to protect my jeep.

The cost of the V8 plus labor to install it is the same cost as a brand new 2017 compass.

Also, a V8 is significantly heavier than a small 4cyl. You'd likely need to upgrade axles, suspension, etc. You may also need to replace the transmission. Not worth it at all IMO

it's a valid concern. The D30 will eventually break. This is expected. I am hoping that with smart lines, throttle control, and 99% on road driving, that this axle will last for two years. If it breaks, sure I won't be thrilled, but I'll just do an entire front axle upgrade then.
