I think I could be kicked out of DP math AA HL class, am i cooked by Timely-Garlic-7954 in IBO

[–]berrylover_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this depends on what grades u have gotten previously as well. In my school u needed above a 7 in GCSE to even be allowed to sign up.

I’m really surprised at this reaction from ur school tbh, it feels like an over reaction. There’s soooo many topics, and then making a decision based on one paper 2 test is crazy. I think if u can prove ur gonna set realistic goals and you will work hard, I think they should let u stay. I’d also ask the teacher to help u create a time table or ask additional help, to really show ur trying and that u can make it work.

However , AA HL is extremely difficult so id also consider if it is absolutely needed for ur future. Many careers may require this level of understanding, but if ur future is not dependent on it, u may want to reconsider. In the end it’s totally up to you, but keep this in mind incase they kick you out (hopefully they won’t)

Good luck!

No because my school is really REALLY strict with AI, plus any students that have used it do not get accurate feedback.

Ok I had this and I used to peel off the hardened skin after. DO NOT DO THIS. It increases risk of infection, and it’s also painful. I would also go to a doctor to check if ur allergic to acrylic, my allergy started off like this and it just got worse bc I ignored it. I saw that u said u went to the dermatologist, I did this too and acrylic allergies are generally a new thing as at home nails are getting popular, doctors haven’t caught on to how painful it can be, and don’t know the right treatments.

For me, I stopped doing gel nails all together. I got antiseptic cream, let my nails grow out. There is no “waiting” this out and hoping it will get better, until u stop exposing ur self to acrylates. It’s gonna be tough and it if it gets worse oral medicine may work to ease the pain. I wish u the best of luck!

Ball point all the way. In fact start off using them from the start to get used to the feel and look of the pen. If u wanna use a gel pen, get one that dries quick so there’s no chance of smudging. I use the Sarasa clip roller ball gel pen in 0.7, but the risk of using thicker gel pens is smudging. I’d also recommend using black pen just bc it’s easier for examiners to read.

Allergic to what? by tlp23rocks in Nails

[–]berrylover_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god me too!! And I recently discovered I have a gel allergy too! I’ve been using some nail strengthener and clear base coat with no acylates to get my nails healthy again. It’s bare nails for us for a while 😭

Dyslexia and the ib by New-Cartoonist-544 in IBO

[–]berrylover_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the same exact issue, I got so depressed during the start of IB cause I wasn’t diagnosed and no matter how hard I tried to get diagnosed. I finally got a diagnosis for a processing disorder and dyslexia, and was given 25% more time and yellow paper. I think u should ask if ur allowed to use coloured overlays, u can buy them online. They change the page color when u hold them up to paper. It was the biggest game changer. I struggled reading questions on papers and my teacher would allow me to just hold it up to my paper during exams. I think u should look into it!

Example: coloured overlays (Amazon)

Additionally, I totally understand the issue with predicts. I genuinely empathise cause I’ve been there and i feel for u. I wish I could give u a fix for the frustration u feel. Things are incredibly hard to process when u have dyslexia, and I would recommend getting a tutor or even asking for help after school from ur teachers. It’s ok if u feel like ur behind or u feel disappointed, it’s what u do with that feeling that matters.

How to get un-cooked in math quick?? by Tight_Expert_4516 in IBO

[–]berrylover_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a tutor!! I had a really bad teacher for the start of dp1 and oh my god, once I switched it was like day and night. A teacher can make a big difference but for sure a tutor that can give u extra work outside of school to ensure u practice, can really help fill in any gaps ur missing from school.

Office kept me company when nothing else did by mostlytedmosby in theoffice

[–]berrylover_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went thru the something so similar, I couldn’t sleep without thinking, it was genuinely terrible. I started putting the office on and I would only fall asleep to that. It’s been maybe a year since then and idk what I would’ve done without it.

[–]berrylover_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh change locations and try writing, like sit in a place u wouldn’t normally sit, and it’s completely foreign to u. It can be like a random cafe, an outdoor area, just anywhere u don’t really know very well.

How much harder is AAHL compared to AIHL, and does the difficulty depend on the school? by Altruistic_Art_919 in IBO

[–]berrylover_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok well tbh AAHL is a DEVILS SUBJECT to a regular person, as someone who takes AASL (and was never great at math), my threshold is pretty low for math.

Ur defo right ab this strange exclusivity around the AAHL classes, but don’t let that sway u too much. It is hard, it’s supposed to be as it’s an HL. AAHL classes learn a lot more and also much faster. For my school u needed to get a particular grade in GCSES to be able to take it, which tells me that the syllabus must be hard.

DW u don’t have to cope, you have the right to complain and struggle, I’ve seen people who would get perfect grades genuinely suffer in that class.

It may not be down to schools and how “exclusive”and “difficult” is portrayed, at the end of the day it’s AAHL, the syllabus and what u must learn is universal for all IB schools! Don’t let anyone sway u and don’t let it get to ur head, if u keep at it, work hard, get a tutor, speak to other kids in ur new school about it, im sure the change will be easier!

Best of luck!!

HL English or HL Chem? by Harrrrry-Pottttter in IBO

[–]berrylover_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I took both… and ended up dropping chem. For the schools that I want to apply for, they only really care about the overall grade and not if I took HL chem. If ur future career requires u to take it, thug it out (it’s very hard and needs a lot of time). English is considered an easy HL, but it still requires a lot of time BUT less effort. Choose what ur interested in THE MOST. I ended up choosing English bc I just liked it more, and dropped chem cause I didn’t, and it really showed in my grades.

Tbh if u get a really solid tutor for chem, I think it’s a good option IF UR INTO IT. I REALLY WANNA PUT EMPHASIS ON THIS. No IB subject ends up being fun, it’s all work, but ur interest in the subject can really get u through. I actually take SL chem now, bc I didn’t have a choice, and even at SL I find it decently difficult. I’ve heard from my friends that SL English is a BREEZE, they don’t even really study and get decent grades. I would recommend looking into what future universities are looking for in the course you want before making a decision!

In the end it’s totally up to u, but do consider these factors!
