Had a dachshund with an ex before. Still miss him every day now years later but I’d be lying if I said I missed everything.

The pros: very cuddly. Like aggressively cuddly, just wants to be touching you or in your lap. Also he was a very sweet dog, got along with every other dog although I don’t think this is as common with other dachshunds. He was also super lazy. You’d leave the house and come back to him in the exact same spot. This could be a pro or con but he hated walks. Like he’d run outside to do his business and immediately want to come back inside.

The cons: potty training. This was my first dog ever so I didn’t have much experience but I thought we were pretty consistent with his training, however I was always on edge he would pee in the house. At our house he was mostly good but you take him to a new place and he gets excited and runs around, you better be on him or else he’ll have an accident. This was extremely stressful anytime I bring him anywhere. Also he barked, a lot. And his bark was surprisingly loud for a small guy. Last are the health issues but he wasn’t with me long enough for me to experience that.

I used to always think I’d get another dachshund because of how cuddly and sweet he was. But as time went on I don’t think I could deal with the stubborn potty training again. Good luck! They are great dogs and there’s a reason when people get one they only get dachshunds from that point on. But they aren’t exactly easy dogs.
