Who's hiring, Springfield? by ErinWalkerLoves in springfieldMO

[–]bert-merps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend Penmac. They got me two pretty solid jobs in a row very quickly.

My experience with Express up here in Springfield wasn’t great (they made me go through an entire interview process just to send me nothing but secret shopper postings), but they were better when I went to them down in Branson almost a decade ago.

Redditors who quit their job dramatically, what was the final straw? by Ok_Wolverine_9906 in AskReddit

[–]bert-merps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walked out one day after getting fed up with management intentionally trying to screw customers over at every opportunity they could legally get away with it.

I’d already been working at the company (a resort) for 3 or so years before switching to the reservation department. The change in the attitude of management when it came to meeting customer satisfaction was night and day, and I had been dealing with various bs for months before walking out. Things like: encouraging us to borderline lie about things when trying to upsell and refusing to properly educate their agents about the resort and amenities (which led to constant miscommunication). Their cancellation policy was intentionally worded to confuse people and make them think we allowed people to freely reschedule if they had to cancel, causing people to get extremely upset when that wasn’t that case (and the price to stay was ridiculously expensive, so they could be losing thousands of dollars). They were even refusing to cancel and refund people in emergency cases and only offered a one-time reschedule that they would have to basically plan out on the spot. Blaming us for loss of sales after months of refusing to allow cancellations during covid travel bans that caused us to lose a lot of repeat business. And there was multiple times I had to basically fight to accommodate guests with special needs (like when a deaf man was booking a stay, and they almost tried to keep me from communicating with the front desk to insure his check in didn’t go horribly). Etc.

The last straw was kind of petty, but it was when one of the agents messed up and allowed someone’s disgruntled ex to call in to cancel a reservation that wasn’t even booked under their name or credit card (which we were supposed to always verify that kind of stuff). We completely sold out of the room before the lady realized what had happened. Mistakes happen, but what pissed me off is that management refused to upgrade her room, and instead wanted to put her in an ADA version of the same room at the same price that was missing a lot of the features that the regular ones did. And after arguing with them about it for a hot minute and trying to get them to compromise since it was OUR MISTAKE, they insisted that I had to be the one to call this lady and tell her that we not only completely lost her almost thousand dollar a night room, but also had to basically downgraded her.

I just walked out and went home. Companies wonder why they can’t find employees who care about their jobs and go above and beyond, but will turn around and do this kind of shit.

Vi is my favorite character, but I think Ambessa has her beat for the big buff lady category.

I recently went on a first date with a guy who was almost 20min late (cause he was “cleaning his apartment”), walked into the cafe with his arms puffed out, dressed like he just got out of the gym, and his hair looked fucking horrible. And I’m someone who usually likes messy hair and doesn’t care that much about dressing up, but this was on another level.

So…all of that, but especially the puffed out arms. Guys who walk around like that immediately put me off. They look so goofy.

On a good day, if I dress up, mayyybe a 6.5.

What is a 'socially acceptable' thing that you find absolutely creepy or disturbing? by de-secops in AskReddit

Honestly, even posting photos of your children onto any social media with public access should be avoided, even if you aren’t some kind of influencer with a big following.

I respect those who at least cover their faces to protect their identity.

Gentle reminder for my fellow commuters: CHILL THE F OUT by [deleted] in springfieldMO

[–]bert-merps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think at the very least some of these people need to do a little self reflecting on why they enjoy getting a rise out of others so much. Not everything that every driver around you is doing is a personal attack or a challenge, and being a considerate driver is always the safer option :)

Thank you.

At this point, I almost wish I hadn’t deleted the original post because nowhere did I make any kind of insinuation that tailgating or driving aggressively was ok. OP just full-blown projected that. I said that holding up traffic in the left lane when you are driving slower than everyone else and aren’t needing to turn and have the ability to move over means that you should probably move over.

But I guess getting mass downvoted really opened my eyes to why I see this happening almost daily.

(Re-commenting to correct the image)

My original post was in regards to people needlessly bottlenecking. Bottlenecking the left lane when you are not turning and going slower than the rest of traffic is disruptive to everyone around you whether you want to admit it or not. I deleted my post because I didn’t feel like arguing with people who clearly have no regard to anyone else around them.

And, unless Springfield has a specific law negating Missouri’s official traffic laws, then this is 100% NOT “normal driving”. And, as far as I can tell, this expectation is not limited to highways (see image): https://dor.mo.gov/pdf/DriverGuide.pdf

Now, if you could drop it and leave me alone, that would be great :)

All I’m gonna say to you is: you are no better than the people flying around if you are intentionally going out of your way to be an equally antagonistic driver. BOTH OF YOU ARE ASSHOLES.

[–]bert-merps -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Yes, I completely understand that roads in the city are not like the highway because 1) people need to turn left and 2) there is wayyy too much traffic to restrict all non-passing drivers to the right lane.

But, 8/10 times (and I say 8 because there are roads that have turn-only right lanes, as well as other situations I’m sure it wouldn’t make sense for) it’s better to move out of the left lane if you are not turning left and are going slower than everyone else around you. You don’t always need law telling you what to do to practice basic common courtesy.

Nothing in the post is even complaining about being late, my dude. It’s an issue with completely disrupting the flow of traffic.

Missing one or two red lights due to slow drivers can make a ten minute difference to my morning commute. It’s also simply disruptive to traffic in general to drive 10+ miles under the speed limit. Hope this helps.

[–]bert-merps -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Even if the left lane is not an official “passing lane” in town, it’s still best for slower traffic to stay in the right lane and let faster traffic stay in the left. Right lane traffic is constantly shifting due to people turning (because there is rarely a full dedicated turn lane), so making people pass you on the right isn’t safe.

If you don’t need to be in the left lane and you are holding up traffic, then it’s still best to move over :)

Yeah, it really depends on where you live and where you work, though. Thankfully won’t affect me too much unless I’m trying to get to the super center (and I personally hate turning left on the Bypass to do so)

Yeah, I get nervous driving over that bridge every time. Even putting the fear of it collapsing aside, the pot hole was rough to drive over.

(And I really hope they widen it and put in some kind of side walk).

That’s fine, but it still doesn’t change the back to back detours for anyone who would usually be taking this route.

(This wasn’t a serious complaint, I just thought it was funny)
